The most common reasons for balance issues are as follows: • Inner ear problems related to the vestibular system

• Aging • Stroke • Medication errors

Regardless of the cause or type of symptoms you are experiencing, our team at Ivy Rehab will use the most effective,research-based techniques to help you return to normal function as quickly as possible. How Vestibular Rehabilitation Can Treat Your Balance Problem It is estimated that around 50% of all dizziness stems from a problem with your vestibular system. The vestibular system gives our brains vital information about how we move and how our heads are positioned. It also involves motor functions controlling our overall balance, stability, and posture. At your initial evaluation, we will conduct a comprehensive assessment that includes your medical history and a physical examination of your joints, muscles, coordination, posture, inner ears, and eye tracking capabilities. Our evaluation will help identify the likely cause of your symptoms and guide our choice of treatments. Our therapists at Ivy Rehab will prescribe a balance and vestibular treatment plan of specific exercises, targeted stretches, and movement techniques to restore the functioning of your vestibular system and get your balance back on track! Contact Ivy Rehab today to learn more about our vestibular rehabilitation solutions, and let us help you or your loved one restore your balance.

(Continued from cover) Each year over 10 million patients visit a physician due to dizziness. Dizziness is typically a sign of mechanical problems due to dysfunction of the vestibular system, both peripheral (inner ear, vestibular nerve) and central (brainstem, cerebellum), or a side effect of medications. Although it can occur at any age, it is the most common complaint of patients over 75 years. Here at Ivy Rehab, our therapists are trained to handle balance issues and vestibular rehabilitation. They can perform a thorough evaluation to recognize common vestibular conditions and provide treatment to alleviate symptoms effectively. What Are The Main Symptoms and Causes of Vertigo? Dizziness is a term used to describe everything from feeling faint or lightheaded to feeling weak or unsteady. Another common term you may have heard before is vertigo or the sense that you or your surroundings are spinning around. Symptoms can be constant or intermittent, lasting anywhere from seconds to hours. They can occur while standing completely still, lying down, or changing positions, such as rolling over in bed. Experiencing continuous symptoms can drastically affect your ability to perform everyday activities. Feeling dizzy throughout the day as you try to work and get things done can be highly disorienting. Vertigo and dizziness are two of the most common reasons adults seek medical help, along with back pain and headaches. Preventing Falls With Balance & Vestibular Rehabilitation

They are great in working with a variety of clients regardless of age or disability.” Exercise of the Month Start by standing up straight (place both hands on the back of a chair for support if needed). Slowly lift one knee up towards the ceiling until it reaches hip height and then lower it back down. Do the same with the other leg keeping the abdominals contracted the whole time. Repeat exercise 10 times. STANDING MARCH
