Crown Colour Insights brings together experts across colour, design, sustainability, politics, visual culture, textiles and psychology to explore the forces shaping the future of interiors and the built environment. These perspectives help define the themes, colours and palettes that will inform the design of homes, workplaces and shared spaces in the years ahead. For 2027/28, the strongest emerging narrative is one of adaptive agency: a desire for greater control over the things people can influence. Rather than seeking a return to stability, people are learning how to live, work and make choices within ongoing change. This is encouraging a move away from fixed solutions and short- lived aesthetics towards spaces that can flex, support and respond. Interiors are increasingly judged by how well they accommodate shifting behaviours, multiple uses and diverse emotional needs, rather than how closely they align with a single moment in time. Through colour, design, community and personal choice, people are finding ways to create greater stability in the environments closest to them.
