REPLACING GUTTER BALL SWITCH

The gutter switch is located below the playfield.

If the gutter switch is faulty, it will have to be re- placed.

Instructions:

Remove the 1 screw from the left cover using the #2 square bit included in the hardware kit. (Part # A5DBSQ020)

Lift out the wood panel to access the score switch.

8

HOW TO REPLACE SWITCH IN FRONT SWITCH

Front Switch Panel is located on the front right side of alley.

If a push button is faulty, it will have to be replaced.

Instructions: Remove the 14 screws from both sides along the length of the right side cover using the #1 square bit included in the hardware kit. (Part # A5DBSQ010)

Flip the side rail upside down to access the push but- tons.

A single push button can now be replaced by unplugging the button and unscrewing the large nut on the push button. Single Push Button Part # AAPB25501

If you wish to replace the entire push button assem- bly, unplug all 4 push buttons and remove the 2 nuts using a 11/32” wrench.

The cables are labeled to ensure the new push button assembly can be plugged in correctly.

Entire Push Button Assembly is Part # AAP- B25500

9

HOW TO ACCESS ELECTRONIC SCORE OPTOS

Electronic scoring optos are used on newer games built after Sept 2022.

The opto switches are located under the playfield. There is an adjustment dial on the opto sensor that can

be adjusted with a small screwdriver. Refer to “How to Adjust Opto Sensors”

Instructions: Access to the back of the game will be required.

Remove the 4 screws from the rear cover using the #2 square bit included in the hardware kit. (Part # A5DBSQ020)

Remove the back panel to access the score optos.

Normally, there should be only 1 green LED on. (The second LED should only go on if on object is in front of it. This means the opto has power and will score once the ball goes through the hole.

If the opto has both green LED’s on, then it thinks a ball is passing through and will score automatically. First - clean the emitter and detectors on the tip of the opto sensor board with a Q-tip.

If both LED lights are still on, then the sensor will need to be adjusted. Refer to “How to Adjust Opto Sensors”

If an opto sensor needs to be replaced: Remove the 1 Phillips screw and remove the opto sensor.

To install: Install the Phillips screw through the new opto and install into the wood. Then re-connect the cable.

Important - Make sure that the cable is plugged in so that the white plastic knobs are positioned down and away from the wood playfield.

10

HOW TO ADJUST OPTO SENSORS

The opto sensors should normally have only 1 green LED on.

When a ball passes the sensor, the 2nd green LED will also come on for a split second.

If an opto has both green LED’s on at the same time, it will score automatically because it thinks a ball is going through the hole. There is an adjustment dial on the opto sensor that can be adjusted with a small screwdriver.

To adjust sensor: Gently turn dial with a small screwdriver clockwise until both green LED’s are on.

Then turn counterclockwise until the 2nd LED goes out and there is only 1 LED light on.

To test : Place finger in the hole in front of the optos and ensure that both green LED’s come on.

Warning: Bright lights can interfere with these opto sensors and give false signals. Do not use a bright light when adjusting the opto sensors.

If game has software version 2.2 or higher, the correct “Debounce” setting for electric optos switches is 20. Refer to “Debounce” Section for details.

11

DEBOUNCE

Debounce is a setting in the menu of the Skee-Ball game.

It sets the length of time (in milliseconds) that the main board needs to see a voltage signal from a sensor to actually count a score.

Background: If the debounce is set too quick, then the main board may interpret background electri- cal “noise” as a score signal, and score points when no ball is thrown. If the debounce is set too slow, then a second ball being thrown through the same score hole will not score. The main board will “see” that second score signal as part of the first signal.

To access the debounce menu: Press and hold the “Start” button on the lane cover for 10 seconds.

The screen will show the software version.

Press the volume button to cycle through the debounce options: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, & 60

The correct setting for electric optos switches is 20.

The correct setting for mechanical switches is 60.

12

HOW TO OPEN ELECTRONIC AREA

The electronic circuit boards, speaker, power supply, and display board are located in the top rear of the game. Instructions to open electronic area: Access to the top of the game will be required. Remove the 4 screws from the top cover using the #2 square bit included in the hardware kit. (Part # A5DBSQ020)

Remove the top cover to access the electronic area.

HOW TO REPLACE DISPLAY

The display board is sandwiched between the front plexi and the housing inside the electronic area.

Instructions to replace display: Access to the top of the game will be required.

Open the Electronic Area using the instructions above.

Unplug the 2 connectors to the Display Board.

Remove 6 of the screws from the top of the front plexi using the #2 square bit included in the hardware kit. (Part # A5DBSQ020)

Carefully bend back the top of the plexi and remove the display.

Slide in the new display board. Part # AACB25505 Connect the 2 cables from inside the electronic area.

13

HOW TO REPLACE MAIN BOARD

The main board is located in the top rear of the game.

Instructions to open electronic area: Unplug the game from the wall.

Remove the 4 screws from the top cover using the #2 square bit included in the hardware kit. (Part # A5DBSQ020)

Remove the top cover to access the electronic area.

Place the new board next to the old board and swap cables one at a time from the old board to the new board.

These phone cables must go into the correct locations, or the game will score incorrectly.

Adjust Menu Option: The debounce must be set to match your version of score sensors. If the scoring switches in your game has mechanical switches with paddles, the de- bounce must be set to 60. If the scoring switches in your game has electronic opto boards, the debounce must be set to 20.

To access the debounce menu: Press and hold the “Start” button on the lane cover for 10 sec- onds.

The screen will show the software version.

Press the volume button to cycle through the de- bounce options: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, & 60

The correct setting for electric optos switches is 20.

The correct setting for mechanical switches is 60. This menu will exit automatically after 7 seconds.

HOW TO REPLACE ALLEY MATTING

Introduction: To replace the alley matting, both side covers will need to be removed, the alley section separat- ed from the head section, brackets removed, and the old glued-on alley matting pulled off. The new alley matting will have an adhesive backing that will adhere to the lane nicely.

Tools Needed: # 1 square bit

New Alley Matting (76 5/8”)

# 2 square bit Phillips Screwdriver

Remove the left and right side lane covers by ‘r emoving the 14 screws from both sides along the length of both side covers using the #1 square bit in- cluded in the hardware kit.

(Part # A5DBSQ010)

Set the lane covers aside for later installation.

Separate the alley section from the head section by removing the 2 screws on each side using a Phillips screwdriver. The alley section can now be carefully pulled away from the head section. There are cables now showing, but they should be long enough to be left plugged in when the alley section is a few inches away from the head section.

Remove the rear metal matting cover by removing the 4 bolts using a Phillips screwdriver. Set the bolts and bracket aside for later installation.

Remove the front metal matting cover by removing the 4 bolts using a Phillips screwdriver. Set the bolts and bracket aside for later installation.

Peel the old matting off starting at the front of the alley. The matting has a self adhesive. A heat gun may help remove the old matting.

15

HOW TO REPLACE ALLEY MATTING

Dry fit the new matting onto the ramp. Leave the paper backing on the matting, and place on the ramp. Line up the front holes in the matting with the holes in the wood.

Roll over the far end of the ramp and check the length. Trim to correct length if it is overlapping the rear edge at all.

It is very important not to pinch the lane matting on the ball hop.

It is better to have it 1/8” short on the ball hop end.

Install the new matting (which already has a sticky backing) starting at the rear of the ramp. Peel the paper backing from the end of the matting and lay it on the rear ramp curved ball hop. It is very important not to allow any overlap off the back edge of the ramp. In fact - Leave a small amount of black plastic showing on the rear edge of the ramp as the matting is pressed down.

Press firmly on the matting on the curved surface of the ball hop - ensure it is secure on the black plastic surface.

Push the new matting down along the length of the ramp starting at the rear of the ramp, down around the ball hop. Press so it is securely attached. Placing weight on the matting may help with the adhesion.

Place the rear metal matting cover over the top edge of the mat- ting and push the bracket straight down to force the matting over the final curve of the ball hop. Make sure the matting is not longer than the rear of the ramp.

Keep pressure on the metal bracket and insert the bolts that were removed earlier.

Finish pushing the matting down the ramp to the front of the ramp – lining up the pre-drilled holes to the front metal cover holes. En- sure the pre-drilled holes in the front of the ramp are lined up to the front metal cover holes. If the holes are not completely visible, use a drill to enlarge the holes.

Re-install the front metal matting cover.

Re-install the left and right side lane covers. Use the larger screws (A5SCPH050) included in the package to ensure a secure attachment.
