Letters to the Editor The Guiding, OPEN Hands of Loving Mothers

Editor, Wisconsin Christian News: April 2025 Some of my fondest childhood memories are of learning to read upon my mother’s lap. Besides that of homemaker, she helped run our small farm. I can still picture her driv- ing the tractor pulling our baler through the field as we children “helped” dad stack the hay. Mom also worked during the week at a full-time city job. Last year I talked briefly with an- other such mom. She raises vegeta- bles for sale at stands, while also working as a local cook. Her daughter brought home a book from the ele- mentary school library, but knew not to read it until Mom checked it out. I looked at a picture of the cover and agreed that any young child might see it as as good book to read. The title, “A Good Kind of Trouble” doesn’t seem sinister in context with the blurb below, “Full of Heart and Truth.” At first glance, the cover illustration looks innocent too. A well dressed young school girl facing away. Hang- ing from her shoulder is a prominent

pink backpack covered with some stickers. A star, a flower, a winged athletic shoe, an ice cream cone and a heart seem tame as well; even the rainbow “peace” symbol might be. Yet, right in the center? A clenched black fist! It definitely looks out of place. That mom scanned through the book and I agreed with her on the content — such a book should not be in an elementary school library; not even middle school or high school. Far from “heart and truth” it is a primer into the radical left wing agenda; critical race theory, gender queer ideology, etc. Needless to say, her daughter didn’t read it, nor did her mother let her return it to poison the minds of other children whose par- ents may not be so diligent.

to The Bible than most other such artistic works. I would love to see them supporting WCN by advertising. Critics claim that the loving and car- ing GOD of the New Testament is contradictory with the venge- ful, smiting GOD of the Old. Yet, only the Bibli- cally ignorant could think that. GOD sets Adam and Eve in a paradise. After their sin, HE doesn’t use a clenched fist to pound them back to dust. They are banished, however, from Eden. Cain kills his brother, per- haps with a clenched fist, again mercy is granted, he is not smitten but banished. The flood of Noah? Ex-

cept for a few saved on the Ark, men’s evil had all the earth on a path to destruction, anyway. Abraham bar- gains with GOD to spare Sodom and Gomorrah if just five good people may be found. Lot’s family only add up to four. No, The Caring Hand of GOD is there in the Old Scriptures as well, for those with eyes to see and ears to hear. As Jesus said, “they testify of HIM.” I never did and no longer can say “thank you” to my mom as much as she deserved. For all those moms who care as much about the spiritual food their children ingest/read, thank you. Most of all, I thank GOD for HIS SAVING HAND, that rescued me from drowning in a sea of troubled waters. -Bill Behringer, Winneconne, Wis.

Just as my own mother, she not only cares with physical hands, but figurative, spiritual hands as well.

It baffles me, how a clenched fist is so often displayed by those espous- ing “peace.” I once wrote about how GOD is often symbolized with an open hand. An episode of the popular series, “The Chosen,” offers a power- ful illustration, in which one sees Jesus’ hand plunging into the sea to save Peter from drowning. I don’t al- ways agree with everything the show portrays, but believe it sticks closer

WCN Distribution Volunteer Is Frustrated with Christians

Editor, Wisconsin Christian News: April 2025

Yes, the Gospel is free, but MINISTRY is very costly. It’s ex- pensive. I know, from our personal conversations, that you put thousands of miles on your delivery van every month, just get- ting the newspapers out to news racks. All the other distribution volunteers do the same — investing and spending their time AND their own money to distribute Wisconsin Christian News. For us, and for you, this is ministry work. We do it for the Lord. But it is immensely frustrating to me that professing Chris- tians never give a thought to the thousands of dollars that must be raised every month to produce and distribute such a powerful ministry tool as Wisconsin Christian News — and then they, who could easily afford to not only subscribe, but donate monthly to the work of the ministry, continue (after 26 years) to expect to get it for “free” — and they’re then angry when we aren’t able to make enough copies available for “free!” In April, I am dropping ten of my distribution points on my de- livery route and 600 fewer copies will be available. This will also save me driving 200 miles every month. I know it is very expensive to operate and maintain our vehi- cles and know what YOU have had to put into maintaining your own delivery van. Well, tomorrow, my car goes to the shop for repairs, and the mechanic is NOT FREE! (Nor is the gas). The gospel is free, but ministry work is not. Why is it that there are so few Christians willing to support this work, prayer- fully and financially...work that is reaching and touching hearts, souls and minds all across the state and well beyond? As you’ve stated to me before, and which I fully believe, Wisconsin Christian News has a MUCH greater impact in saving souls, out there in the public — in a single month — than the average “church” will have in its entire existence. Yet Christians are happy to write a check to send to a missionary overseas, but neglect, without even a single thought, the lost and perishing in their own backyards — and the faithful ministers who provide solid Biblical teaching and vital news and information every month through the work of Wisconsin Christian News . Wake up Christians! They say you won’t miss the water ‘til the well runs dry. Well, that “well” is now dry! The very LEAST you could do is order your own subscription, and I KNOW most of you are able to donate something each month toward the costs of this ministry. What are you thinking? -Jim Frisch, Cadott, Wis.

Last month you told me a person called you to complain that there were no “free” newspapers at our local “Christian” family restaurant which serves free vanilla pudding. Last week, a Christian acquaintance of mine called me at home because he couldn’t find a “free” copy of Wisconsin Chris- tian News at his local grocery store. Last year, grocery store customers 120 miles from my home called you complaining there were no “free” Wisconsin Christian Newspapers left in the store rack. With so many “Christians” reading Wisconsin Christian News , why do “Christians” expect a newspaper that costs $3.50 per copy to produce and distribute every month to be “free” for them? It seems people do no realize that Wisconsin Christian News is not just for Christians, but an OUTREACH to the unsaved. The copies we place in news racks for free distribution are an outreach to the general public — and because WCN is in news- paper format, with something to catch the eye on every front page, unbelievers eagerly pick it up and read it, and it’s a very effective outreach tool. Whereas a Bible tract or book handed to someone is usually quickly discarded without thought, un- saved people actually pick Wisconsin Christian News up and READ IT all on their own! It’s a wonderful way to witness to the lost and perishing, skep- tics, leftists, agnostics and atheists — and we don’t expect those who are lost to pay for a Christian newspaper. This is our out- reach to them, and I know you receive many wonderful testi- monies whose lives have been deeply touched and changed for the glory of God, because copies were made available for them to freely pick up in public settings. Yet, despite the fact that you run multiple notices in the news- paper each month, informing readers that Wisconsin Christian News is READER SUPPORTED, very few “Christians” ever consider donating anything — or even spending a mere $35 a YEAR for a subscription of their own. They just continue to EX- PECT it to always be there, and to always be there “free” for them!
