and the place thereof shall know it no more.” Also, James 4:14 states, “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time then vanisheth away.” Verses 17-18, “But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him, and His (right thinking) unto children’s children; To such as keep His covenant, and those that remember His command- ments to do them.” We can expect God’s mercy for- ever only if we fear Him; glorify Him as God, grateful for provi-
In Psalm 103:8-14 King David describes the reasons why God had prepared a plan before creation to set us free from our bondage to sin, de- scribing the heart and soul of our Lord God and Father in heaven. “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger
and plenteous in mercy.” The English translation does not begin to bring justice to the richness of the character of our Father in heaven as does the original Hebrew. First, the word translated “mercy” (2617- ‘checed’) includes all of these three aspects: strength, steadfastness, and perfect love. Not only an obliga- tion as Creator, but also of generosity; plenteous, large amounts! The Lord is merciful (7849- ‘rachuwm’) from the word “compassion” (7355) added to mercy (2617). The Lord is gracious (2587-‘chan- nuwn’) the actions that spring from His love (26- agape” perfect love), so with compassion and mercy He freely provide for all our needs, whether we de- serve it or not. Let me paraphrase Psalm 103:8; Because our Lord God’s perfect love moved Him to compassion, and compelled Him to be gracious and merciful, providing for our every need whether we deserve it or not. Therefore being without excuse, we should come to repentance and not perish, but have everlasting life. But many still refuse! Verse 9, “He will not always chide: neither will He keep His anger for ever,” depending on how we re- spond to His work of perfect love, mercy, and grace. “For the Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness, but (because of His mercy) to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (II Peter 3:9). Verses 10-12, “He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our trans- gressions from us,” in forgiving us. Ephesians 1:7, “In whom we have redemption through His blood, (made possible) the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” When our Father in heaven forgives, He remembers our sins no more. Likewise (Ephesians 4:32), “And be ye kind one to another, ten- derhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” Verses 13-16, “Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear Him. For He knoweth our frame (8336-from whence we came); He remembereth that we are dust. As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flour- isheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone:
should perish, but all should come to repentance; in that God is now justified upon our repentance, to for- give and cleanse us from all our sins as stated in I John 1:9; without which no one could escape their captivity in ‘Hades’, the place of departed spirit. Upon the ascension of Jesus (Ephesians 4:8-10), He took the saints captive to heaven to be with Him forever! Read Matthew 16:15-18. Even “the gates of hell (86-‘hades’, the grave, the place in the earth for the departed saints, including Jesus who descended three days and three nights “went and preached unto the spirits in prison” - I Peter 3:19); could not, and did not stop Jesus and the saints being caught up to heaven. “Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” I Thessalonians 4:17. Read I Corinthians 15:20-28. “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and became the first fruits of them that slept (in the earth). For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all (once to) die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive (some to life eternal, some to eternal damnation, the second death, John 5:29). But every man in his own order: Christ the first fruits,” then those taken with Him at His ascension. The rest also “in his own order” ‘til the second com- ing, to ever be with the Lord. Read I Corinthians 15:55-57. “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law (because the law only demands justice without mercy). But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
sions to meet our every need: Believing, trusting and living by His every word. Worshipping and serving our Creator, the Creator of all things, who is blessed for ever. Amen. Verses 19-22, “The Lord hath prepared His throne in the heavens; and His kingdom (in heaven) ruleth over all. Bless ye the Lord, ye His angels, that excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His (every) word, (but some did not). Bless the Lord, all ye His hosts; ye ministers of His, that do His pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13 and Eph- esians 6:66). “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure… doing the will of God from the heart.” In Psalm 18:30-31 another Psalm of David, “As for God, His way is perfect: the Word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler (4043-a shield of defense) to all those that trust in Him. For who is God, save the Lord? Or who is a rock, save our God?” (Psalm 103:22). “Bless the Lord, all His works in all places of His dominion: bless the Lord O my soul.” When Jesus who came to earth to finish His work as our Savior, to justify forgiving us, He said in Matthew 9:2-6a in response to a man “sick of the Palsy,” (3885-paralisis); “Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee…” Jesus knowing (certain scribes) thoughts said, “Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? For whether is easier, to say, ‘Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, arise and walk?’ But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins;” fulfilling the promise made to Adam and Eve, paying the price to justify the forgive- ness of the sins of the world.
