on behalf of BP. In 2007 I moved over to the Marathon account working the Bakken area. I obtained my CDOA in 2009 and was promoted to Senior Analyst in 2012. I was let go in 2015 due to downsizing. After working contract positions at PetroFlow/Equal Energy, Calyx Energy and Blue Water Resources I found my current position with Farmers National Company in 2018. What a difference between mineral management and the operator side. What do you enjoy about Division Order? I enjoy the puzzle solving, the detective work; and that it is not a repetitive/cookie cutter job. What are your challenges? The biggest challenges I face on the mineral management side of our business are not having the files/records; clients not knowing what/where they own; information a DOTO offers; and clients not setting up accounts as record title…. Banks and Universities cause most of these issues for me. What do you think is important? Education!! There is always something new to learn in our industry and the best way to learn about it is by attending SADOA’s bi-monthly meetings, Summer Seminars and NADOA’s Institute. Favorite thing about SADOA? The friendships made over the years and catching up with mentors that are still active in SADOA. Family: I live in Coweta. I am blessed with 2 adult sons and both are Eagle Scouts. Dusty is 39, lives in Broken Arrow with his wife Heather, and Bear is 35, lives in Kauffman, Texas with his wife Erin. I have 2 dogs; Winston is a 16-year-old miniature red dachshund and Hunter is a 13-year-old white Pekingese. I am also adjusting to life with my parent’s cat, Lucy, who made the move to Oklahoma from Idaho last July. I have 6 grand-dogs and 5 grand-cats. In my spare time. I enjoy golfing, fishing, hunting, and spending time with the family.
National Company in June 2019, where I am currently the Oil and Gas Administration Supervisor. I earned my BS in Technical Management from Oklahoma City University in 2004. I was asked what my favorite thing about being a DO Analyst is and the first thing that came to mind was building decks for new wells. A great mentor and dear friend of mine always teases me that she doesn’t understand how I enjoy land work since I despise puzzles. I tell her that the puzzle of land work is fun and interesting and is nothing like putting stupid cardboard pieces together! I enjoy cooking, baking, flower gardening and spending time with my husband and fur babies. We recently bought a “rock crawler” which is an old Jeep Cherokee rigged for extreme trail riding and rock climbing. I like riding the trails but openly admit that I am a chicken, so when my dare devil husband is climbing rocks I get out and watch! My favorite quote is ‘To thine own self be true’. I have lived by this philosophy since I was in my teens and in today’s world I feel it is so important to be true to oneself regardless of what others think.
Sonya Turner How did you get into Division Order? Originally from Idaho, I knew nothing of the Oil and Gas Industry
when I started my career in June 1997. I joined Vintage Petroleum, Inc. as an Administrative Assistant in the Division Order Department. My first thought was what the heck is a division order…. Wow I was in for an education that I would end up loving! I had a fabulous and very patient team of mentors that taught me the basics (including the answer to that first question, “what is a division order???”) to setting up and maintaining ownership decks. I was promoted to Analyst in 2000 handling a wide variety of areas. In 2006 Vintage was sold and I joined the IBM division order team working
