Taking the Broker Voice to Canberra

NIBA President Nicholas Cook and CEO Richard Klipin were in Canberra in June, engaging with parliamentarians and senior officials on the issues that matter most to insurance brokers and the clients they serve.

Discussions with Shadow Treasurer Hon Tim Wilson MP and Shadow Assistant Treasurer Hon Kevin Hogan MP focused on insurance affordability and accessibility, issues that sit at the heart of what brokers do every day for Australian businesses and individuals. NIBA also met with the Hon Dr Anne Aly MP, Minister for Small Business, continuing its advocacy to ensure small businesses, not-for-profits and community organisations can access quality professional insurance advice, and that the regulation and pricing of modern insurance products works for those who need it most. Separately, NIBA has been engaging directly with Treasury on two priority issues for the profession: supporting the ongoing sustainability of the Compensation Scheme of Last Resort (CSLR) and enhancing the effectiveness of professional indemnity insurance for financial services licensees. NIBA is also grateful to Senator Susan McDonald, Shadow Minister for Northern Australia, for her time. As a member-led body, NIBA believes in being present where its members are and that means bringing brokers together no matter where they are located. Our regional brokers play a critical role as trusted partners in helping their communities to thrive, and their voice matters in every national conversation. These conversations reflect NIBA's commitment to ensuring the broker voice — and the voice of their clients — is heard where it counts in national policy discussions.
