Helping Others
When you start helping others, something amazing happens. You begin to feel better. At this stage of life, we are limited in what we can do, but we can be helpful and do all kinds of things to encourage people. Here are some of the things I do. These might not work for you, but this is what I’ve been doing, and it’s brought me great joy. I send flowers to celebrate with others. We send fruit to those who are very sick. I send cards and a lot of emails. More than anything else, I call people. What a joy it is to talk to people on the telephone, to pray with them, and to listen to their stories and have them tell me how they’re doing and what’s going on in their lives. It brings encouragement to them, and I’ll guarantee you it makes me feel good inside. At church a couple of months ago, we were asked to fill out a card with various things we could do to help in the ministry. When the pastor talked to me, I said, Pastor, there’s only one thing I could do. I can’t travel because I don’t have a car, and I can’t drive because
