Scholastic was founded as a single classroom magazine written to help children DISCOVER the value and joy of reading.

Every year, we survey thousands of parents and children across the country to inform the books and libraries we produce to educate and inspire.

Kids agree (89%) that their favorite books are the ones they have picked out themselves. When kids get to choose, they read.

More parents and kids seek diversity with books that include diverse storylines, characters, or settings.

The top three most-wanted types of characters by kids are those who can be role models, who face challenges and overcome them, and who are “similar to me.”
