Pigments are not held in a “milky” acrylic paint film that mutes colors. Latex and acrylic paints form a smooth, milky film (layer) on the surface. Pigment is encapsulated within this layer, and light is bounced from the paint’s surface, not the pigment, which can mute colors.
Mineral paints form a crystalline, glass-like clear “matrix” on the surface where pigment reacts directly with the light source giving mineral colors greater depth and purity of color and luminosity found in natural quartz and crystals.
