As a placemaker, Housing Choices Australia focuses on creating great homes, active spaces and neighbourhoods, and engaging residents in meaningful ways that inspires participation, and impacts positively on their sense of place and belonging.
Our aspirational and transformational National Placemaking Strategy lays a foundation to become a national industry leader in place-based innovations, model of empowerment service delivery, and evidencing impact. Our commitment to placemaking and strategy will help Housing Choices shape and employ a whole organisation placemaking culture and approach. It will help implement and practice informed, consistent, practicable and measured placemaking.

Our three pillars provide a guide for action, and will ensure we enable great, supportive and resilient places that align with Housing Choices’ vision and purpose.
Placemaking is a concept and interactive and collaborative process that empowers and brings people together to create positive change. Placemaking makes the most of a local community's assets, inspiration, and potential, with the intention of creating homes, spaces and neighbourhoods that people love and want to live, work, play, and learn in. Housing Choices defines placemaking as collectively empowering our residents to create inclusive, safe and vibrant places. As we develop and support more diverse portfolios, people and communities, we need to understand their unique needs and characteristics. This encompasses the landscape, demographics, socio-economic conditions, environmental factors of an area; and applies a lens that is trauma and culturally informed.
