Yusen Logistics (UK) Sustainability Report 2023

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE AND ONGOING PROJECTS

The whole Yusen Team are powering our drive to lead the way as a genuinely sustainable business; there is no more important ambition that we can have

Suzanne Mercer HR Director

This isn’t just words; we are right now engineering practices throughout all aspects of employment which promote and facilitate real improvements in sustainability. We have already made significant progress and many of those practices and approaches are described in detail elsewhere within this publication. We are already delivering substantial results. In recruitment, we incorporate dynamic diversity monitoring and are evaluating our Team profile against that of the communities in which we exist in order to ensure that we are delivering on our commitments to welcome people from every segment of society. This is activity that we are bringing deeper into our business to evaluate opportunity for career progression similarly. Importantly, we are collaborating with a wide range of organisations that support those who are disadvantaged and helping to open and improve pathways into employment. One of our key programmes – Project Rhapsody - is creating hundreds of roles for those who are unable to work around conventional or prescribed shift patterns due to their caring responsibilities, health or any other reason. Throughout their employment, everyone is educated on matters of mental health, diversity and inclusivity, the environment and matters of governance. Alongside that, we recognise that training can only really gain traction in a supportive organisational culture and therefore, the Senior Management Team are all deeply involved in an ongoing programme by which we are developing our culture to that effect.

Digitisation of our HR processes to improve efficiency and the colleagues experience is the core backbone supporting the various innovation and improvements we are introducing to our function. The measurement of our progress has evolved into a sophisticated combination of responsive, agile colleagues feedback methods, developed with our engagement partners – Workbuzz – alongside our 4A key ‘real - time’ metric, through which we can see, at macro and micro level, how our interventions are influencing behaviours, attitudes and performance. We are also proud to announce that, in addition to the positive changes we are bringing to our employment structure and processes, we have joined Business in the Community and are launching Yusen’s community program for our colleagues to utilise a generous 5 days volunteer leave per year to further provide opportunities for our organisation and our colleagues to give back and bring us closer to the communities we belong to. Our commitment to making real, positive change is manifest in all that we are doing to permanently embed sustainability into the fabric of our collective thinking, into the way that we operate and to into how we take our place responsibly within society.

Personally, I am proud to be part of Yusen’s journey and of the Team that is delivering that.
