Columbus (OH) Alumni Leads During COVID

The Columbus (OH) Alumni Chapter and Zeta Chapter continued our support of the annual African American Male Wellness Walk. This event helps bring awareness to health disparities affect- ing African-American males and encourages them to take action. We participated in a promotional video, collaborated with the Food Soldiers to provide healthy food at the Kappa house, and completed a 5K walk through the community surrounding the Kappa house. In response to several national and local in- cidents damaging relations between police and the African-American community, CAC brothers participated in two marches on City Hall in Colum- bus, OH. One was a silent march with other NPHC organizations to present a letter of specific demands to the mayor. A bimonthly meeting was setup to track the progress of the demands. The pandemic presented a challenge as well as opportunities for us to evolve our methods to continue providing healthy food and toys to meet the needs of our community while maintaining CO- VID-19 guidelines. During our 11 th Annual Turkey and Toy Giveaways, the chapter overcame a reduc- tion of sponsorship funds, inclement weather and a break-in at the Kappa House the night before the Toy giveaway. With the support of sponsors, donors, and hard- working brothers from the Columbus (OH) Alumni, Zeta, and Epsilon Lambda Chapters, we distributed over 650 turkeys, meals and $7500+ worth of toys. We shared the Turkey Giveaway program know-how with other chapters to help improve their programs. T he brothers of the Columbus (OH) Alumni Chapter (CAC), Zeta Chapter, and Epsilon Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Frater- nity, Inc. contributed to a number of community service, social justice, and brotherhood activities during the pandemic of 2020.
