Five Men of Achievement

The Fall 2000 initiates, whose line name was “Die-Nasty” (Dynasty), all came from different places but shared the common goal of being the best men they could be. Collectively, they recalled fond memories such as their weekly Sunday dinners while under- graduates and starting a Guide Right program with a local middle school in Bethlehem, PA. Below is a brief snap- shot into their past, that informs their present, and shapes their future.

right before I went into the interview for the job with the NFL, I was sitting in the lobby on the phone with Lou and we were just praying together, that’s what this brotherhood is all about.” While Brother Harrison consistently achieves today, he recalled having a number of obstacles as he started out. As a child, Harrison was raised by a single mother. He explained that he only met his biological father after joining Kappa Alpha Psi. He was greatly impacted by the loss of the only father-figure he had grow- ing up, his uncle, was murdered in Philadelphia. For him, being initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi fulfilled a much- needed male presence in his life. It was during a business class that Lou Brown approached him asking that critical question: “What do you know about achievement?” that solidified his choice in joining the fraternity. With the assistance of his brothers, Brother Harrison was able to lay his uncle to rest and get through the most difficult year of his life. In the end, Brother Harrison’s words of advice are “Iron sharpens iron,” and the best part of this brotherhood is that brothers continue to lift each other up and challenge one another to be their best possible selves. As Brother Harrison explained he didn’t get into business school on his first try, but it was his brothers that were always in his corner that continued to support him that brought him to the position he is in today.

to be challenging. He recalled, “When my daughter was born, Lou, Corey and some other brothers came to see her in the hospital. That was really special.” For Brother Daye the support from his brothers, helped keep him grounded. Today, he is married and the father of two daughters. The eldest is get- ting ready to attend college in the Fall 2021. Brother Daye said, “I remember bringing my oldest daughter to the Lehigh versus Lafayette in 2019 and I had to tell some of the young brothers on campus to put their eyes back in their head, but then it dawned on me, they are lie the same age. My daugh- ter really grew up in this chapter. “ Daye’s advice: “Stay connected.” He emphasized and stressed the impor- tance of keeping your brothers in the loop about what is going on in your life, positive or negative. He looks back and wishes he took this same advice as a younger man saying, “It’s impor- tant to take advantage of being able to pick someone’s brain, spend time, or if needed ask for money when you need it, because it goes both ways.”

Brother Daye became a father soon after joining Kappa Alpha Psi and still an undergraduate in college. Inspired by Phil Pleasant’s crossing in Spring 2000 and encouragement Marc L. Wilson (Kappa Gamma 1997), who was serving as interim Dean of Multicultural Affairs, Brother Daye described how his daughter grew up
