He joined the Fraternity as a 1952 initiate of the West Virginia State College Chapter, the Tau of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He was also a member of the college's R.O.T.C. program. He earned a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army of the Medical Corps after he graduated and reported to Fort Sam Houston, TX. Miller, "It was toward the end of the Korean Conflict when I came on active duty. If you were a Distinguished Mili- tary Graduate, you could choose your field. When I graduated, a lot of second lieutenants were forward observers, and a lot of them were getting picked off. I decided to go into the medical services, and I was never sorry I did that." During his 24 years as an Army officer and soldier, Colonel Miller held many positions of technical and leadership responsibility in military installations in Europe and the United States, culminating with his retirement from military service as the Radiologi-

amount of respect and a reputation as a committed and influential leader and manager. He was a retired U.S. Army Colonel who had two distinguished careers: one with the U.S. Army Medi- cal Service Corps and another with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Miller, a longtime member of the Silver Spring (MD) Alumni, had a long active career in Kappa Alpha Psi, including serving as the Senior Kappa Affairs Chairman for the Eastern Province. Brother Vandy L. Miller entered the Chapter Invisible with his children by his side on February 17, 2021, at 89. Vandy Leonard Miller was born on February 16, 1932, to the late Mary and Wade Miller in Wadesboro, NC, and raised in Bluefield, WV. He attended public schools in Gary and Bluefield, WV. He played basketball and football at Park Central (WV)

Several colleges recruited Miller, but he chose to stay in-state and attend his- toric West Virginia State College (now University) (WVSU) in Institute, WV. Miller was a four-year letter in football for the WVSU Yellow Jacket teams and was a team co-captain. He made the all- CIAA team in 1952 and was also honor- ably mentioned on the Jackie Robinson All-American team the following year. "In those days, I was a blocking guard — what you'd call an H-back these days. On defense, I was a linebacker. You didn't have the two-platoon system in those days. You had to go both ways." He graduated in 1954 from WVSU with a B.S. degree in biology and physical education.
