He was born on May 13, 1935 on St. Helena Island, SC and served in the U.S. Army before earning a B.S. degree in Industrial Education from Saint Paul’s College, Lawrenceville, VA in 1961. Prior to his retirement in 1991, Johnson was employed by the Defense Person- nel Support Center as a Quality Control Specialist for the Federal Government. Throughout multiple relocations, John- son was a charter member of the Will- ingboro-Ft. Dix-McGuire (NJ) Alumni Chapter and an active member of the Fredericksburg (VA) Alumni Chapter. Johnson was a former assistant Sunday School teacher, charter member of the Quest Christian Outreach Program, Senior Usher Board Member and trustee at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Burling- ton, NJ. He was also an active member of Orange Grove Baptist Church (SC) and NAACP. Survivors include his children: Theron, Terry, Darryl, Sheryl, and Dena; nine grandchildren, and other relatives.

After graduation and the Army, he moved to Brooklyn, NY, where the New York City Transit Authority employed him. He resigned from the Transit Authority and enrolled in the American Academy of Funeral Service in New York City in 1955 and graduated in 1956. While employed at Brown’s Funeral Home in Plainfield, NJ, he was a gradu- ate assistant for the Congress of Gradu- ate Management Education (COGME) at Columbia University in NYC. Other employment included the following: the NYC Civil Service Commission and The Perry Funeral Home in Newark, NJ, for 25 years retiring in 2000 where he was a licensed funeral director. Later returned to Brown’s Funeral Home as manager. A Life Member of the Fraternity, Jones was a member of the Plainfield (N.J.) Alumni Chapter. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Plain- field since 1954, where he served as an Elder and was a member of the choir. His other memberships include Stone Square Lodge #38 F. & A. M, Prince Hall Affiliate and American Legion John- son Jeter Post #219 in Plainfield, Garden State Funeral Directors Association, Na- tional Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, National Funeral Directors Association, NJ State Funeral Directors Association and Essex, Union, and West Hudson Funeral Directors Association. Brother Tyree P. Jones Sr. was preceded by his parents, and his wife, the for- mer Louise Brown. He is survived by daughter Diane L. Gentles, son Tyree P. (Melanie) Jones, Jr.; six grandchil- dren Justin (Kia) Gentles; Jennifer and Dionne Gentles, Connor and twins Sinclaire and Madison Jones and six great-grandchildren Isiah, Alexis, Ariana, Andrew, Lea, and Dionne.

Once at Howard, he majored in phar- macy until he sought a degree in Busi- ness from University of Maryland from which he graduated in 1970. His career began as a Capitol policeman from which he moved quickly to the Federal Trade Commission. Brother Hunter accepted several posi- tions at the U. S. Department of State while attending Harvard to complete a certification in government, then finally served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Passports. As Deputy Assistant Secretary, he traveled worldwide to develop a more secure U. S. passport working in con- junction with other countries, includ- ing France, England and Australia. He worked in that capacity until he retired in 1999 after 32 years of service. He served as Treasurer of the Defiant 27 Finance Committee, Treasurer of the Leon Day Foundation of Baltimore and was a member of New Psalmist Baptist Church for over 24 years. Brother Kenneth Hunter leaves be- hind his wife of 54 years, Sharyn, four daughters, Kim, Gail, Kelli (Jason) and Kourtney (Adonis) and son, Marcus (Insoo). Sixteen grandchildren and three greatgrands call him Popi. Nephews Richard A. Pope, Jr (Ann), Jeffrey B. Pope (Laura) and Richard A. Pope III (Kristen) call him “Unc.“

1947) entered the Chapter Invisible on December 4, 2020, at 92. On July 18, 1928, he was born in Chase

and Willia S. Jones. He graduated from historic Thyne Institute High School in Chase City. He attended Knoxville Col- lege, where he graduated in 1949 with a B.A. degree. He joined the Fraternity as a charter initiate of the Knoxville College Chapter, the Beta Phi of Kappa Alpha Psi. From 1951-1953, Jones served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
