Garrott Benjamin Jr., previous Deputy Sheriff and retired C.E.O. of the Urban League, Joe Slash, Indianapolis Business Development Foundation, Inc. He was a Life Member of the National Associa- tion for the Advancement of Colored People N.A.A.C.P. and a dedicated member of the Light of the World Chris- tian Church based in Indianapolis. Brother Larry G. Whitney is by his parents, uncle and aunt, Rodney “Mac” and Annie Macklin, and daughter, Tif- fany Danielle Whitney. He is survived by a daughter, Tamara Dawn (Kelvin) Roddy; granddaughter, Jonetta Mayola Simone Roddy; step-granddaughter, Tiffany Spears; step-grandson, Cort- ney Roddy and step-great-grandson, Zyen Spears; sibling, Dorothy “Louise” Jimerson; and a host of family, friends, colleagues, and clients.
Larry G. Whit- ney (Delta Iota 1965) entered the Chapter Invis- ible on November 25, 2020, at age 74. Larry Gene Whitney was born on July 25, 1946,
in Muncie, IN, to John and Fannie (née Wallace) Whitney. He graduated from Muncie’s Southside High School in 1964, where he lettered in football, wrestling, and track and field. Whitney earned a B.S. degree in 1969 from Ball State College (now University). In 1972, he earned a J.D. degree from the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis, IN. After graduating, he and his family moved to Washington, D.C, where he started his legal career as a trial attorney for the United States Department of Justice (D.O.J.). The D.O.J. appointed Whitney as Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and Assistant United States Attorney for District of Columbia. Whitey returned to Indianapolis as Chief Counsel for Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, Assistant Majority Caucus Attorney for Indiana Senate, attorney for the firm, Saint Thoms Whit- ney & Courter. He eventually opened a private practice, Larry G. Whitney, Attorney-At-Law & Associates, until medical complications required him to retire. He also joined the faculty at Indiana University School of Law as an adjunct professor and as a guest lecturer at Georgetown University of Law and Antioch School of Law in Washington, DC. Whitney served for nine years as special counsel for The Circle City Clas- sic and Indianapolis Black Expo. He participated in numerous programs and
