ELDER WATSON DIGGS AWARDEES
Elder Watson Diggs Awardees
I have heard Achievement defined as the quality and quantity of an individual’s body of work. As it pertains to our Noble Clan, this definition is fitting because for a Kappaman, achievement is our mandate. It is the rarified air in which we breathe. Every field of hu- man endeavor is a Kappaman’s playground. It is the arenas in which we execute our excel- lence. Training for leadership is our mantra – we find ourselves in a constant state of duality; eternally teaching, steadfast in our learning. The quality and quantity of our work is measured by those that have transcended before us. We are the descendants of Diggs in so much as we dare to achieve regardless the situation or circumstance.
Named after our most revered founder, the Elder Watson Diggs Award recognizes the outstand- ing contributions of our members. It embodies a legacy of greatness – recognition of those who
have overcome adversity in order to advance the fraternity. It is an honor we do not take lightly or bestow carelessly. Brother Diggs encapsulates the belief that only through adversity I can achieve. That no matter the obstacle, I can overcome. When I think of Founder Diggs I am reminded of the part of invictus that states, “In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeoning’s of chance my head is bloody but unbowed.” Our most illustrious founder dedicated himself to the cause of achievement. It’s in his tireless footsteps we walk. It’s under his shining example we aspire. It’s because of him, we are Nupes! Distinguished guests, I submit to you that the men assembled before us have walked in the footsteps of Diggs. They aimed high and achieved their goals. They are students of achievement, leaders among men, and vanguards of excellence. They have advanced our fraternity and in so doing, we gather tonight to honor them.
