“Showered with humility, I consider this honor as one in a representative capacity to be shared among many in the Middle Eastern Province the Durham (NC) Alumni Chapter, a cadre of brothers across the spectrum of this Grand Fraternity...to wear a medallion in the likeness of our apex Founder, Elder Watson Diggs, who combined tenacity as a vital force in solidifying the fruits of fidelity. We now enjoy 110 years later, will be worn with monumental joy...to be in this number, I ask you the 85 th Grand Chapter in session to accept my gratitude, with fervent prayer that each of you witnessing this occasion are blessed with health, strength and increased opportunities for greater achievements....”
J oseph King Davis, Jr., received his Bachelor of Science Degree from North Carolina Central University with honors, concentrating in Health, Physical Education, Secondary Education and Biology in 1977. Professionally, his teaching career began in 1977 with the Durham Public Schools, retiring in 2012 after 36 years of effective service as an elemen- tary and high school teacher, coach, Central Office administrator, and athletic director, cataloguing numerous areas of leadership responsibility, honors, awards and recognitions. Brother Davis is an active and life-long member of St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Durham, North Carolina, where he and his immediate family are descendants of the church’s founders. He has been elected and/or appointed official as a Connectional, Regional, Conference, District and Local official of the denomination. His most recent leadership position was the Fifth International President of the Assembly of Christian Educators of the
denomination, where he provided stellar leadership, now President Emeritus of the organization, recognizing millions of its members. He presently serves as the Durham District Director of Christian Education, member of the local church Board of Trustees for over 25 years and serves as a member of the Finance Committee at the Local, District and Conference levels of the denomination. He is a recipient of the Bishop Herman Leroy Anderson Distinguished Service Laity Award, the highest Award presented to a lay person in the State of North Carolina for the Eastern North Carolina Episcopal District. Initiated into the North Carolina Central University Chapter, the Alpha Kappa of Kappa Alpha Psi in 1976, a Life Member of the fraternity and member of the Durham (NC) Alumni Chapter, he has served and continues to serve with superlatively high standards and boundless enthusiasm at all levels of our fraternal structure, receiving numerous Local, Province and National appointments Davis was appointed the 19 th Middle Eastern Province Polemarch by 27 th Grand Polemarch Robert L. Harris, Esq. in 1993. His mantra, humanitarian efforts and standards of excellence were industrious, memorable and self- sacrificing during his administration, combining unlimited energy and the highest integrity.
