GFL Acquires Competitor Terrapure Environmental GFL Environmental Inc., Ontario, has entered into a defin- itive agreement to acquire the solid waste and environmen- tal solutions business of Terrapure Environmental Ltd. and its subsidiaries for an aggregate purchase price of $743.8 million.The acquisition will exclude Terrapure’s battery re- cycling business. Terrapure is an integrated provider of solid and liquid waste management and industrial services to more than 7,000 customers across Canada. Terrapure’s environmen- tal and organics solutions cover a diverse range of waste streams from generation through collection, processing, recovery, recycling, reuse and disposal. These services are managed through the company’s integrated network of as- sets, including its landfill and its liquid and solid waste col- lection and processing facilities.Terrapure’s operations are supported by a fleet of more than 500 collection vehicles and approximately 1,600 employees. Terrapure’s operations to be acquired in the acquisition generated revenue of approximately $292.7 million in 2020, inclusive of COVID-related volume impacts. Foam Recycling Coalition Opens 2021 Grant Period The Foam Recycling Coalition (FRC), Falls ChurchVirginia, has opened its grant submission process for 2021 to sup- port recycling of packaging made from foam polystyrene (PS). The FRC, which is part of the Foodservice Packaging Institute, said it provides grants to applicants looking to start or strengthen a postconsumer foam PS recycling program. “During the past six years, the Foam Recycling Coalition has awarded nearly $780,125 in grants to communities and recycling businesses in the United States and Canada,” said Natha Dempsey, President of the Foodservice Packaging Institute.“More than 6.3 million more people can now re- cycle foam polystyrene directly due to these partnerships and investments.” FRC said the initiative helps fund for the collection, pro- cessing and marketing of products made from foam PS. It targets postconsumer foam PS products, which includes foodservice packaging as well as other forms of packag- ing like egg cartons, meat trays and protective packaging for shipping items. Both public and private organizations involved in managing residential drop-off and curbside re- cycling programs of material recovery facilities (MRFs) are eligible to apply for funding.The FRC distributes up to $50,000 for each grant, and grant amounts are determined on a case-by-case basis, dependent upon equipment needs.
