The AHL Family Is Growing!

And congratulations to Michael Cumper , TPO National AE, on welcoming his third son, Jayce K. Cumper, born October 18th, weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces! Jayce is the youngest of three brothers, Jackson (12) and Joey (6), and he’s happiest when he’s being held, eating, and staring up at the ceiling fan.

Congratulations to Christina Malatesta , Retail Loan Originator, on the arrival of her beautiful baby boy, Jack! Born right on his due date, September 10th at 12:29 AM, little Jack is happy, healthy, and already melting hearts everywhere. Welcome to the world, baby Jack!

Tip: Five-Sentence Rule If your email takes more than five sentences, call instead

Stop the Email Madness! Sometimes, the fastest way to get an answer isn’t another reply-all… it’s a quick phone call! Dave’s giving us that “ you could’ve just called ” look , a friendly reminder that when an email chain starts spiraling or going nowhere, it might be time to pick up the phone. A short conversation can save time, clear confusion, and move the process forward faster. Let’s make it a habit, whether it’s with coworkers or clients, to call first, email second when it makes sense. Your inbox (and your sanity) will thank you!

Exploring, Serving, and Sharing Beyond the Office This month’s Culture Corner celebrates the many ways our AHL team connects with the world around us, whether serving our country, protecting marine life, or sharing a little everyday inspiration.

During one of our recent Coffee Socials , the team chatted about butterfly bushes, and Bryan Knabe followed up by sharing some great information for anyone looking to grow their own! These beautiful plants attract butterflies (and a few bees), and Bryan even shared step- by-step tips for growing new ones from cuttings. Details here.

When he’s not helping brokers close loans, our very own TPO AE Michael Moss is out on the water tagging sharks for NOAA. This year, he reached an incredible milestone, his 76th shark tagged! His truck, fittingly named “ ORCA ,” is built for surf adventures when he’s not aboard a tagging boat. NOAA is a federal agency that studies and protects our oceans, atmosphere, and marine life. It tracks weather, researches climate change, and supports conservation programs like the shark tagging project Michael joins to help monitor shark populations and migration. Learn more here.

In honor of Veterans Day , we proudly recognize three AHL team members whose service and sacrifice remind us of the freedoms we cherish every day. Patrick Leffard U.S. Army (10 years) Retail Operations Specialist Patrick proudly served in the U.S. Army for 10 years, stationed at several locations, including Fort Campbell and Fort Bragg, and completing three deployments to Iraq. From an early age, Patrick felt a strong connection to the military, his grandfather served in World War II, and his own fascination with the stories of service and courage only grew stronger over time. Drawn to the values of discipline, teamwork, and purpose, he followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and made his own mark through years of dedication and sacrifice. His commitment to serving others and protecting our nation stands as a true reflection of the strength and character we honor this Veterans Day.

Peter Feres U.S. Navy (1990–1998) National Account Executive Michigan Office

Peter began his service in the U.S. Navy shortly after radioman school, where his first duty station took him to Subic Bay, Philippines, followed by a WestPac ship tour. He joined the military seeking adventure and the chance to better his life, and indeed, the world became his classroom. One unforgettable memory from his time in service was the incredible moment when a volcanic eruption and a hurricane struck simultaneously while he was stationed in the Philippines, a powerful reminder of nature’s unpredictability and the resilience demanded of those in uniform. Peter says he still has a photo from the day he graduated boot camp, a reminder of where his journey began and the strength it took to serve.

Jim Picanso U.S. Marine Corps (1982–1988) TPO Account Executive Jim served in the United States Marine Corps, spending nearly four years stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, posting his family still teases him about for its picture-perfect “luck.” Inspired by his Godfather, a Green Beret who died in Vietnam, Jim joined the Marines to honor his legacy and embody the same strength, integrity, and sense of purpose he admired. Jim recalls his first moments at Parris Island, vividly remembering the heat, humidity, and sounds that marked the start of a life- changing chapter. He also fondly remembers his platoon mate turned lifelong friend, Wade Dimsdale—their paths crossed repeatedly throughout their enlistments, forming a bond built on shared discipline and camaraderie.

❤️ AHL Thanks You To Patrick, Peter, and Jim, we extend our deepest gratitude for your service and sacrifice. Your dedication reflects the same spirit of leadership, teamwork, and courage that defines AHL today. If we’ve missed anyone else who has served, please accept our heartfelt thanks, and let us know so we can recognize your service in future editions.
