This information has been supplied to you for reference only. SGS makes no warranty, express or implied that it is fit for any purpose; and accepts no liability should this industry norm be used. We must never offer any guidance that either is, or could be construed as, our own opinion. You may well have gained some knowledge on tank cleaning operations throughout your time in the industry and feel that you can offer your own advice in certain circumstances, which can help the client, but please DON’T. Please keep in mind that you are acting in such situations as an SGS employee, not in a personal capacity. We must also not offer our advice on the compatibility of prior cargoes with the intended fresh one. It is typical for a sales contracts to contain clauses which detail requirements for the types of acceptable previous cargoes. These stipulations will commonly refer to the last 3 cargoes. We are typically not aware of the full details of such prerequisites, and hence, we are not in a position to offer any informed guidance. It is understandable that when a client requests assistance your first response is to try to assist, which is a good impulse. This is the approach we take to be professional and assist our clients and further improve relations, but when it comes to tank cleaning recommendations or compatibility guidance you must be very careful and follow the guidance documented in this section.
