FEBRUARY 23RD, 2024

Frank L. Bowser School – The theme for the month of February has been Kindness. Students are encouraged to follow Becca Schofield’s lead by performing random acts of kindness. The month started with a school wide assembly that reviewed our three golden rules : Hands are for helping, Sharing and caring, and Doing the right thing. Students who are caught doing the right thing are receiving tickets and then names are drawn weekly to determine our All-Star students. This week, our Principal M. Mathieu Basque and our Vice-Principal Mme Lisa Cormier have challenged the student population to complete 100 acts of kindness .

School News!

. Arnold H McLeod School – AHM proudly celebrates Black History Month in February and March. There are daily trivia questions on the announcements, a welcome board with quotes and more trivia, and a dedicated Black History Month bulletin board. So far this month the school has been learning about Black Inventors as well as reviewing things they learned last year. All classes are reading various books by Black authors or about Black history and culture. Every class has a book bin in their classroom library and the Principal, Mrs. MacNeill, has a lending library for staff or students. This year classes will choose an I WONDER project integrating Science and Inquiry into their learnings. Mr. Terry a.k.a. our Tech Mentor, will be assisting each Team with a project that incorporates some cool technology. One class will be making a model of themselves with the 3D printer and recreating the Montgomery Street bus route Rosa Parks rode daily. Another will be creating digital books about Ruby Bridges that will be shared other French Immersion classes. Pictured are some projects completed last year using the illustrations of Vashti Harrison, and by researching Viola Desmond, Martin Luther King JR, Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks, and Amanda Gorman. Even the art teacher Mrs. Ward gets involved. This is important to the . school community as it represents one of their LEARN expectations. A=Accepting of Everyone as well as showing everyone that Black history is history, as it is the history of Canada and the World.
