NARRAMORE continued from 15 that God can call Christians into the teaching ministry just as definitely as into the preaching ministry.” A music teacher in the New York schools tells how she discusses the meanings of words with boys and girls. At Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, the entire plan of salva tion as mentioned in songs, is dis cussed day after day. Teachers who love the Lord have helped young people taking part in Christmas pageants to memorize entire portions of Scripture.

CHRIST IS LIFE

Can You Agree with Christ ? A minister once said you may disagree with my ideas about Christ but you can’t disagree with Christ. I think that’s true. There has never in all of recorded history been a man more highly thought of than Jesus Christ. Even scholars outside the Christian tradition acclaim Him as the greatest man that ever lived. Think for a minute. How many people have condemned Christ as being evil? . Very few of us would want to disagree with Christ. His teachings of justice and love and God to date have not been improved upon. Now if it is true that most of us consider Jesus Christ a great person then why is it also true that pnly about 1 person in 10 is His follower? Could the reason be that too often the issue is ideas about Christ instead of Christ Himself? I think so. Any other person’s ideas about Christ are worth no more than our own. It is Christ that counts. His claims for Himself are something we have no desire to disagree with. What did Jesus Christ claim for Himself? He said that to be rightly related to God man had to obey His (Christ’s) commands (Matthew 7:24-29). He said you can’t love God without loving Christ (John 8:42). He said that His words were life (John 6:63). He said that He granted eternal life (John 10:28). He said that He forgave sin (Luke 5:20). He said that He was God (John 10:30-33). Re-read this paragraph. Put these words into the lips of any other man and they are utterly ridiculous. Imagine a man saying he could forgive sin, could give eternal life, that he was God. It is ridiculous isn’t it? And yet Jesus Christ did just this and for two thousand years He has been acclaimed the greatest man that ever lived. Think what the claims of Christ mean. They simply mean that He was either what He said He was or else a fraud or an ego maniac. Can they possibly mean anything else? I think not. Remember these aren’t words that idealistic worshipers use to describe Him. They aren’t the ideas of some great minister. These are the words Jesus Christ used Himself. These are His own claims. What do you think, right now as you read this, of Jesus Christ? Can you agree with Him? I don’t mean with me or some minister or some church. I mean with Jesus Christ. Can you agree with Him? He said, “ I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). There isn’t a person that ever lived that hasn’t wanted a right relationship with God. Perhaps you’ve tried other ways. Now why not try the way Christ said. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and be- lieveth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24). Can you, agree with Christ? — L. H. If you have found in this short article a way of life that you would like, we urge you now— this very moment— to yield your will to His will and in doing so find that in Christ is Life. Other teachers sponsor Bible clubs and Christian fellowships on or off school premises. Mrs. Bernice Orr, head of a staff of public school nurses, states, “When it was necessary for me to go back to work after the death of my hus band, several years ago, I wanted to go into the mission field. I found that the Lord had prepared the way, and He sent me into one of the most fertile of all mission fields, the public schools. There is no place where men and women have more opportunities for influencing the world than in our schools where we meet such great numbers in their formative years. I have had many opportunities for witnessing to bdys and girls at times when because of some difficulty, they were eager to receive the message that Jesus Christ is the one Person in whom they can put their trust.” Teachers, Not Preachers Christian teachers need ■not be preachers. They should not enter the classroom with an attitude of defying state laws. If educators are well trained, have desirable person alities, and if they have the right relationship to Christ, God will give divine guidance, and He will provide opportunities for witnessing, Robert Monsen, an assistant super intendent of schools in charge of curriculum, told me: “ Our education al system is obligated to enlighten youth in all aspects of light, but only the Christian educator has with in him the key to unlock the spir itual realm. Our fellow colleagues may be doing top work in develop ing the mental and physical factors, CONTINUED ►
