N A R R AM O R E continued but the spiritual growth is depend ent upon the educator who is a Chris tian. Christ is the answer in this life and the life hereafter. I feel obligated to give the finest answer that this life has to offer. This wit ness is seldom a formal classroom presentation, but more often an ex ample of living, or a personal testi mony. In counseling with parents, the fact is often brought out that the home is providing a physical and mental environment for the children, but the spiritual influence may be completely neglected. The Christian administrator or teacher is able to point out that the obligation of par ents is met only when all three phases of life are provided for.” An audio-visual specialist in a large school district office, told about his experience. He was the only born-again Christian on a committee previewing films for use among thou sands of students. One day they- were previewing a brilliant, captivat ing film which among other things showed the beginning of the world. The committee was greatly im pressed by swirling celestial bodies of matter, cooling off processes, then the emergence of order out of chaos— and behold — the earth! The next scene portrayed the dawn of civiliza tion. There were grotesque trees and shrubs, swamps overhung with vines, prehistoric animals moving slowly about, and ape-like creatures swing ing from branch to branch. The jun gle became more defined, the animals more natural, and the swinging crea tures definitely man-like. The stirring film continued, pre senting some excellent materials for use in school. At the conclusion of the showing, the educators were vo ciferous in their praise for the film. Then, the Christian educator said, “ You know, that is a very fine film and it presents some excellent mate rial, but the first part is not scientific. It leads one to believe that somehow everything just came into being and that man evolved from apes, monkeys, and lower animal life. All factual evidence is against that point of view. The world was created by God, and man, distinct from all other mam mals, was also created by God. As an educator, I would never vote to accept this film and to show it in our classrooms.” There was a moment of silence, and the chairman of the com mittee said, “ I suppose we had better reject it.” The testimony of Walter Marlatt, a junior high school teacher, is typi cal of Christians teaching in the public school. “ I have had many opportunities to witness to students
