Poem s fo r «fune

b y M a rtha Snell Nicholson

He is quiet evening hours And candle light. He is the moon and stars,

He is the door to my magical king dom, He is my youth, He is my defiance to old age. He is my battle gauge flung down to earth’s woes. L He is warmth in my cold desolation, The comforting touch of hands in my dark, My safe refùge. In life’s hot struggle He is the shade of poplars Growing beside still waters. He is peace in the heart of deep woods. He is integrity and truth And unshaken uprightness; He is delicacy of thought and per ception, And depth of understanding passing that of women. He is the light of home to the home less;

J ew els Upon my finger gleams a ring; My lover placed it there To be the symbol of his love, His tenderness and care. I watch it sparkle in the light As though it tried to show The heart of him whose gift it was, That one who loves me so. That greater Lover of my soul Has jewels for me too, Heaped up, and waiting there for me Beyond the farthest blue. And some He thickly sows across The starry, spangled sky. At night my heart leaps up with joy To see how loved am I. The B rid e We are to be married next month. He is my ecstasy and radiance, My dreams, My laughter and my song.

The great round sun at break of day, The free wide spaces of the plain and sea. He is my clarion call to life and work dnd love. He is the answer to all my life’s questing. He is a man, strong. He is a lover, compelling, ardent, He is as tender as my mother He is the strength of my limbs, He is my prophet of eternity, He is my interpreter of God. We are to be married next month. 0 beloved, let us bow upon our knees before Him! If all this ecstasy is ours bn earth, What will it mean to be the Bride of Christ! The beat of my heart, The wings of my spirit.
