GOOD LUCK COMES TO THOSE WHO DO THE RIGHT THING
3 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO ATTRACT GOOD FORTUNE
March, due to St. Patrick’s Day, is often a month that brings ideas of luck and fortune, featuring symbols like four-leaf clovers, pots of gold, and horseshoes. But in my experience, good fortune or luck doesn’t just happen to people — it’s created. I’m not saying I don’t believe in luck at all, but I do think you must put yourself in the position to be lucky in the first place. Before 2009, I used to help clean up natural disasters all over the country. In 2010, after being out of town for a while, I pretty much had to reinvent myself and start over. Now, I had two choices: to depend on luck to bring me the perfect job or to put my head down and work hard. So, in 2011, with absolutely no website experience, I built the BLG Environmental Services website from scratch. The site seemed pretty basic, with no fancy keywords or integrated pages — I simply used it as a way to get myself out there and advertise my business. For a while, this site just sat there, but one day, I got a call from a random number. The person who left a message said they found my website and wanted to talk about what my company could do for them. I almost didn’t call this person back because I really thought a call from my self-made website couldn’t result in any legitimate business. Still, my wife insisted that I call them back.
That single phone call led to one of my biggest clients and jobs, and the money I earned from it allowed me to pay for a brand-new website. What I’m saying here is that doing the right thing — working hard and going out on a limb — put me in a position to receive that random phone call. It might have been luck that such a great client called me, but they certainly wouldn’t have found me without that site. I believe doing the right thing for the right reasons is what ultimately attracts good fortune, and there are three simple things you can do to stay on the right path. No. 1: Be 100% committed to what you’re doing. When it comes to doing the right thing, the most crucial part is to give it your all. While my website may not have been perfect in 2011, I put everything I had into it. Good luck or great opportunities won’t fall into the lap of someone who only does half the job, but they’ll undoubtedly be more likely to happen to someone who gives their best effort and shows that they’ll work hard. No. 2: Show up and do what you promised. There is no worse way to spoil any good fortune than to go back on your word. Show up on time and fulfill every promise you made to your client, even if it’s hard. The right thing is never
to overpromise and underperform but to stay truthful to your word instead.
No. 3: Go the extra mile, and do more than what you’re being paid for. When you start a job, your goal shouldn’t be to rush through it and collect your check but to do a good job for a client who trusts you to complete the work. Do the little things for them that no one else does, even if you’re not being paid for it. Going above and beyond will help you stand out and attract those fortuitous opportunities later when clients remember how much you did for them. Finally, understand that putting yourself in the position to receive good things takes a long time, and nothing happens overnight. It took two years to receive that call from my website and a few more after that to build my company into what it is today. So, this March, don’t wait on luck. Show up, do the right thing, and work hard so the right opportunities will have a much higher chance of coming your way.

ELLA’S GRUMPY HAIRCUT CHICKS DIG IT
my hair. She tried her best to get me excited about the haircut, but nothing worked. I remained grumpy, not wanting my long, beautiful hair to get cut. It had taken me two years to grow it out this long, and my curls were perfect, just how I liked them. My parents tried to help by saying it would just be the ends getting snipped
off to make my hair easier to brush, but I thought my hair looked just fine.
Still, they made me sit in the chair, and the nice lady tied the cape around my neck. I couldn’t even look; it seemed like too much to bear. As soon as I heard the first few
Hi everyone, it’s Ella, and I have some horrible news to share with you: I had to get a haircut. I know you probably can’t believe it because I like my hair long, and getting it cut takes away from my artistic expression. But the other day, while we were eating dinner, Juliet noticed a salon nearby. I felt filled with dread when I heard her declare that she wanted a haircut because that meant I would have to get one, too. I looked at Gavin for help, but he doesn’t mind haircuts like I do, so after dinner, we all ended up in that very salon Juliet had pointed out.
snips, I yelled, “That’s too much!”
My dad promised my hair wasn’t too short. “Look, there isn’t even any hair on the ground yet,” he said, which made me feel better.
After a few torturous minutes, it finally ended, and almost an inch of my hair got cut. If you don’t know, every kid gets a lollipop after a haircut, but they have to say “thank you” to earn it. I refused to speak. The lady at the salon offered a compromise and said I could still get the lollipop if I gave her a thumbs-up ... so, that’s what I did.
My frown was probably close to touching my toes. I didn’t want anything to do with that place or the lady who was supposed to cut
In the end, my haircut turned out just fine, even if I do still feel a bit grumpy about it. Luckily, I won’t have to go through this again for another few years if I can help it.

6 St. Patrick’s Day Fun Facts
‘IRISH I KNEW THAT SOONER!’
6 FUN FACTS ABOUT ST. PATRICK’S DAY
He didn’t banish snakes . Legend has it that St. Patrick banished all of the snakes from Ireland. In fact, even some portraits depict him doing so. However, fossil records show that snakes were never present in Ireland around his lifetime. Corned beef and cabbage originated in America. On March 17, everyone loads up on corned beef and cabbage in celebration, but did you know that in Ireland, they ate ham and cabbage, and the corned beef tradition actually began in America? In the 19th century, Irish Americans bought leftover corned beef from ships returning from China. The first St. Patrick’s Day parade happened in America. Many believe that St. Patrick’s Day was first celebrated in Ireland, but in 1737, the first St. Patrick’s Day parades actually took place in Boston and New York City.
Year after year, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with green shamrocks, leprechauns, pots of gold, and Lucky Charms, but did you know that St. Patrick was actually British? Even more surprising, St. Patrick isn’t even his real name!
Get ready to celebrate the luck of the Irish while impressing others with some fun St. Patrick’s Day trivia.
The man’s British roots run deep. St. Patrick isn’t Irish — he was born in Britain around the end of the fourth century. Legend has it that at 16 years old, he was kidnapped and sold into slavery by Irish raiders. After six years, he was able to escape back to Britain and returned to Ireland much later as a Christian missionary. Ireland named him the country’s patron saint after he passed away. March 17 isn’t St. Patrick’s birthday. Many believe that we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on his birthday, but it’s actually the day he died in 461 A.D.
That’s not his name. As mentioned earlier, St. Patrick is not his real name! When he became a bishop, Maewyn Succat changed his name to Patrick.
