Ninth annual Bark and Compost Day
container of compost will be donated to the Children’s Christmas Fund for the purchase of cereal and/or milk. The mulch, locally produced, is excellent for moisture retention and weed control when applied generously to flowerbeds and around newly planted trees and shrubs. It also helps maintain an even ground tem- perature so plant roots don’t bake under the hot summer sun. All of this means plants will thrive with less effort and watering. The CDHS, also known as Friends of the Garden, uses the money raised on this day to not only fund its monthly meetings and special events, but also to give back to the community. Past and present projects in- clude community gardening at a number of venues around the city, donations of tulip bulbs for the cenotaph and container gardens given to local senior residences, planting at Habitat for Humanity homes, Cornwall Hospice and monetary donations to the Living Wall at the Cornwall Public Li- brary and The Children’s Treatment Centre. “The Bark & Compost Day fits perfectly with

CORNWALL | The Cornwall and District Horticultural Society, in partnership with the City of Cornwall, will be hosting the 9 th annual Bark and Compost Day at the Cornwall landfill site on Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. “This event benefits the entire community by raising funds for various beautification projects in the City,” said Mayor Bob Kilger. Wood mulch and compost will be sold pre-bagged or by the scoop. Residents may also recycle their bags from last year or bring their blue boxes or similar containers for filling on-the-spot by Society volunteers. Bags (or containers) of each product will be sold for $3 each, and residents who buy 10 will get one free! Scoops will be $25 for the first scoop and $15 for each additional scoop. Two scoops fill the average pick-up truck. One dollar from the sale of each bag/

The City’s Landfill Site is located at 2590 Cornwall Centre Road West. Residents can access the landfill from Vincent Massey Drive or Power Dam Drive.

Erin Killoran est la nouvelle directrice g énérale de la Fondation de l’Hôpital de Cor- nwall. Mme Killoran, qui a assumé les fonctions de directrice générale intérimaire, était gestionnaire dans le département de développement et dons majeurs, et membre à part entière de l’équipe de la campagne À votre santé! , qui a recueilli 3,5 millions $ en moins d’un an. Avant de se joindre à l’équipe de la Fondation de l’Hôpi- tal de Cornwall, Mme Killoran a occupé des postes de niveau de plus en plus élevé durant son mandat d’une durée de 13 ans auprès de la Fondation des maladies du cœur, une des principales fondation de charité de la santé au Canada. Elle détient un baccalauréat en études de santé de l’Université Brock. Ci-dessus, on reconnait Mme Killoran en compagnie d’Allan Wilson, président du conseil d’administration de la Fondation de l’Hôpital de Cornwall.
