CONSTRUCTION OF A THREE-STOREY BUILDING ON OLD TIDAL MUD FLATS WAS AMONG CHALLENGES SUCCESSFULLY NEGOTIATED BY MAIN CONTRACTOR HUGH J. O’BOYLE LTD IN THIS PRESTIGIOUS £7.5M PROJECT CREATING A HIGH-QUALITY DEMENTIA AND RESIDENTIAL HOME… DELIVERING A FIRST-CLASS BUILD WITH EXCEPTIONAL FINISHES AND DETAILING
Downpatrick-based Hugh J. O’Boyle Ltd was contracted by Dunluce Healthcare to deliver a high-spec, fully furnished and serviced nursing home with a contract value of £7.5m. The established main contractor has an excellent reputation for completing high- quality construction projects servicing a wide range of public and private clients throughout the UK and Ireland. With extensive experience in the housing, industrial, education, health, historical buildings and community sectors, the company has successfully completed
schemes ranging in value from £50,000 to £12m. This 80-bed care home facilitates residential, nursing, dementia, respite and palliative care. Works to The Peninsula Care Home in Newtownards involved installation of a band drainage system, piling, construction of ground beams, a mixture of precast and poured floor slabs, external facades constructed in brick or rendered block, curtain walling and PVC windows. Internal walls were a mixture of block and dry-lined plaster. Internal works included first- and second-
fix joinery, floor and wall finishings, installation of kitchen and laundry facilities to cater for 80 residents, full mechanical and electrical installation complete with nurse call systems, and internal fit-out with soft and hard furnishings. The external package consisted of paved walkways, gazebos, a landscaped garden, water features and access to roads.
