COMMUNITY REGENERATION PROJECT OFFERS WIDE-RANGING SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC BENEFITS FOR THE CREGGAN AREA OF DERRY/LONDONDERRY… BESPOKE RESIDENTIAL SCHEME WINS COMMUNITY BENEFIT CATEGORY AT RICS AWARDS 2024
Main contractor P&K McKaigue Ltd successfully handed over 119 units of social housing on behalf of its client, Radius Housing Association, in March this year. This new £17m development features 16 complex-needs units and has had a hugely positive impact on the established communities which surround the site and the wider city economy. P&K liaised and corresponded closely with Radius Housing Association and McAdam, culminating in a legacy development designed to serve the local community for years to come. Radius Housing is a leading housing developer, constructing more than 400 new social and affordable homes each year. The bespoke residential scheme
created new homes for over 400 people, addressing acute housing needs experienced by the Creggan area of Derry/Londonderry. Formerly known as Bligh’s Lane, the new Creevagh Heights development comprises 95 timber-frame houses and 24 traditional masonry-build apartments, complete with associated site works, a retaining wall, new services and infrastructure, and hard and soft landscaping. Furthermore, P&K McKaigue Ltd was involved in the extension and alteration of the existing Sean Dolan’s GAA pavilion situated adjacent to Creevagh Heights. Scope of works included a new single storey extension and a 50mx29m sports hall arena with synthetic surface finish. Overlooking the River Foyle and the
Waterside area of the city from its lofty position, a new playpark was constructed to Derry City and Strabane District Council’s specification, including soft surfaces, street furniture and lighting. The project won the Community Benefit Project category at the RICS Awards 2024 and will now progress to the national RICS Awards held in London this October.
