WELCOME BACK!

In 2024, The Club at Quail Ridge will celebrate both its 50th Anniversary and the Grand Opening of our amazing new Racquet Sports Center. Our long-awaited building has begun to take shape and is scheduled for completion early next year. The floor plan and amenities will offer our members a world-class experience and will ensure a strong program moving forward. A newly expanded pro shop will offer a wide selection of the latest equipment and racquet sports attire. The incredible wraparound balcony will offer maximum court visibility. You won't be able to get any closer to the action!

The transition into the new facility will also include new features such as new fencing, windscreens, sun shade canopy, LED lighting, and the continuation of the underground irrigation system program. We are working to expedite the resurfacing of the existing four pickleball courts, in addition to, modifying two additional regulation courts. Adding more pickleball courts, as expeditiously as possible, will be one of our top priorities. Exciting times are ahead! There will be some growing pains with greater participation numbers in both tennis and pickleball and minor inconveniences, as we navigate through the construction and compaction issues. However, it will be well worth the small sacrifices as the vision becomes a reality. I'm looking forward to welcoming everyone to our Grand Opening Party and to having a wonderful 2023-2024 season!

Let’s Play Pickleball! Welcome to another fun season at the Pickleball courts! Whether you've taken a break from the courts or you've played a lot over the summer, it's time to gear up for another exciting Pickleball season on our newly resurfaced courts! I'm very proud to announce that we will now have, not four, but six regulated and newly resurfaced courts to enjoy! With the exponential growth of Pickleball at Quail Ridge, it is clear that the Open Play hours needed to be restructured to ensure a more favorable player/court ratio. After carefully reviewing our options, we decided to create dedicated Open Play hours for different skill levels of players . This way, the waiting times in between games will be minimal. Every group will be able to enjoy 1.5 hours of fun and competitive games, with less long breaks to have more court time. Our Saturday and Sunday morning Open Play will remain the same, open to Intermediate and Advanced players on Saturdays and open to ALL Levels on Sundays. In addition, we are adding Open Play for all Newbie and Novice players on Tuesday afternoons, which provides a safe and fun environment to learn and play matches. To know your skill level you are encouraged to look at the Skill Level Chart on the next page and when in doubt you can find me and ask for my recommendation. Join us Every Wednesday at 4:00 pm for our all- new “Pickle & Pizza” social event. Enjoy fresh and hot pizza right after you’ve finished playing. What’s better than to fill your empty stomach before you head home to hit the shower?! With Trudy Vermeer Pickleball Head Professional & Program Coordinator

Come hit with “ Erne ”! We now have the most innovative Pickleball ball machine on the market at your disposal! This ball machine is the highest rated when it comes to feed accuracy, user friendliness, ball capacity, & drill options; it also comes with a remote control! It even has a dedicated app for your smartphone for pre-programmed drills! Every Friday at 11:00 AM there will be a drill clinic with Erne, where you will get a taste of its potential! With both our participating teams, that played in the Palm Beach County Pickleball League, maxed out at 20 players each, we will be entering a third team this Spring ! This season each team will have a maximum of 15 players on the roster to ensure enough matches for everyone. The matches are played on Saturdays starting in early January, and will run through early March, followed by Play-offs and Finals. Emails with sign-up information will go out in early November and sign-ups will close December 1st. With the new Racquet Sports Center to be completed early in 2024, we will have an end- of-the-season cookout where we will hand out Players' awards and trophies . This event will be open to all members on Saturday, April 6.

I look forward to seeing you on the courts!

Trudy Vermeer, Pickleball Head Professional & Program Coordinator

The simple “Yes” or “No” way to figure out your skill level - FAST! FAST!

=“Yes” to 5 or More Statements

=“No” to 2 or More Statements

I know where to stand at the beginning of each point. I usually get my serves “in”.

Newbie 2.0

dada I usually let the return of serve bounce. I am getting the hang of keeping score. I can often keep the ball in play. I know what a “dink shot” is.

dada I have the basic rules down 100%. I am working on getting my serves & return of serves deeper. I am working on getting my dinks shallower/lower. I am capable of hitting a few dinks in a row. I can usually hit backhand shots when i need to. I am trying to add more power or softness to my game. I know almost all of the “special case” rules. My serves & returns are almost always deep. I sometimes try to hit a 3rd shot drop shot. I try to be strategic about how and where I hit the ball. I have a wide variety of shots in my arsenal. I actively work with my partner to win the point. dada dada I can often anticipate my opponents’ shots. I often finish the point when my opponent gives me an opening, I am usually consistent with drop shots and dink shots. I almost always play at the non-volley line. With a good partner, I can cover almost any shot. I try to be patient & wait for the opening. I can consistently convert a hard shot to a soft shot. I am almost always patient & wait for the opening. I rarely make unforced errors. I consistently use power & finesse to my advantage. I can easily sustain a rally of 40 or more shots. I have competed in tournaments at the 4.5 level or higher. dada

PICKLEBALL CLINIC DESCRIPTIONS

CARDIO PICKLEBALL 1-Hour group class that focuses on Pickleball-specific footwork patterns, in order to improve mobility in a safe and controlled manner. We will work on moving up and down between baseline and kitchen, shuffle along the kitchen line and to properly chase down lobs. High energy in a fun atmosphere with upbeat music. “ ERNE ” CLINIC 1-Hour group class where we will rotate through several drills with our new ball machine, the “ Erne ”. You will learn to create the ideal setup for drilling every single shot imaginable, with use of the remote control and the dedicated Erne app on your smartphone. NOVICE CLINIC This 1-hour clinic is for new players and entry-level players, who have some knowledge of the game but are lacking the skills. You will learn and improve your serve, return on serve, your volleys, your dinks and your drives. Every clinic will include some gameplay to learn basic strategy and how to keep score. INTERMEDIATE CLINIC This 1-hour clinic is for the level 3.0 and 3.5 player that is motivated to improve their accuracy and consistency of several shots, in order to move up to become a 4.0 level player. In general, to move up another level, the jump from 3.5 to becoming a 4.0 player proves to be the most challenging and takes the most time to drill and practice. Here you will work on your overall consistency of your shots as well as some 4.0 level needed skills like resetting, knowing how and when to hit a drop vs a drive, hit an unreturnable dink and much more. ADVANCED CLINIC This is a 1-hour clinic for the 4.0 and 4.5 player who would love to learn new drills and work on some high-level shots like using different types of spin, resetting power shots from any position within the court, effective poaching as well as effective doubles tactics and positioning like stacking.

RACQUET SPORTS RULES & SPORTSMANSHIP - RULES & REGULATIONS

26

Sportsmanship & Etiquette have been the cornerstones of our Program since 1974.

Sportsmanship is the foundation of any athletic competition. It involves respecting your opponents, playing fairly, and exhibiting good behavior before, during, and after the game. Sportsmanship is important because it promotes a positive environment for everyone involved in the sport. It shows that winning is not the only goal but also being a good sport. Sportsmanship helps athletes to develop self-discipline, teamwork, and leadership. It teaches athletes to accept defeat graciously, learn from their mistakes, and respect the decisions of the officials. It also helps to build self-confidence and self-esteem by promoting good values and morals. Our Quail Ridge members take tremendous pride in exhibiting first class Sportsmanship & Etiquette by following three core values:

Treating their teammates, guests, opponents and staff with Respect !

Competing as fierce competitors with Class !

Handling victory & defeat with Grace, Style, & Dignity !
