ILLUSTRATIONS The thing that makes a painter great is his individuality in choice of subject, color, shading, or brush stroke. No truly great artist tries to copy the style of another but uses the tools he has to create from his own personality. Many Christians have never learned this lesson in their Service to God. They do not realize that God does not want from them an attempt to preach, sing, or witness just like another but rather to be good stewards of the talent.— G.A. Sometimes as I’m driving down the road, I hear, or “feel” , a slight varia tion in the motor, which tells me that all is not well. On asking others riding with me if they hear anything strange, I receive the answer invar iably that everything seems to be in order. This was the case a few days ago, when I heard a slight hissing sound, imperceptible to the others. I pulled over and found that an oil line had broken, and the last drop of oil had just squirted out. What made the difference between the other riders and I? It is something that developed over a long period of time, by constant association with the car by traveling with it, and by consciously and subconsciously “ tim ing my ear to it.” This is a picture of our relationship to God, spending time with Him, walking with Him, and tuning our spirits to His will. It is not by the crack of the whip that He directs us, but He guides us with His Eye.— K.P.

SERMONETTES The act of obedience supplies the power for obedience.— K.P. When in Rome do as the Chris tians do.— J.H. Some people that think they are hard-boiled are really only half- baked. (Hosea 7:8)— J.H. The strength of the “ salt of the earth” will often decide the amount of thirst the sinner will have for God. —R.C. God is in the moving business; His specialty: mountains.— R.B.
