S A L V A T IO N continued truly Jewish city of Bethlehem of Judah. (Luke 1:26-33; Gal. 4:4.) He observed the regulations of the law and the feasts of the Hebrew Scrip tures. Too, He was announced to the Jews. He made known that He had come to Israel as Israel’s Messiah and their King. He sent His disciples to minister and preach to the lost sheep of the House of Israel. (Matt. 2:1, 2; 10:5, 6; 21:9-11.) Finally, when we are thinking of the presentation of salvation or its manifestation, we need only be reminded that salvation was finished by the King of the Jews. The superscription over His cross as He died, proclaimed to all men every where that He was the King of the Jews as He paid the ransom for our sins. (Matt. 27:37; John 19:19.) Even when opposing men wanted this changed, it could not be altered. Truly, salvation is of the Jews in its manifestation in a Jewish environ ment with Jewish participants, cen tering in the Jewish Messiah and King. Finally, salvation is of the Jews In Its Propagation Not all are aware that the first preachers of the Messianic message and salvation were Jewish disciples. The Messiah chose certain men to proclaim abroad the message of His appearance and the gracious purpose of God. These men were all to a man of the Jewish household of faith. (Matt. 10:2-6; Luke 10:1.) In fact, the Saviour made it plain that they were to direct their ministry to Israel alone. From the very first the blessed message of God was opposed by the ungodly who heard it. In those days the word was often sealed by the blood of the witness. We must never forget that the first martyrs of the faith were Jewish: Stephen (Acts 7: 59, 60) and James, the brother of John (Acts 12:1, 2 ). The apostles who laid the early groundwork for the spread of the truth were Jewish apostles. (Acts 2:14; 10:25 ff.; 10: 34-43.) The apostles Peter and Paul were from Israel. Thus from start to finish the great work of salvation was permeated with the presence of Jews. Our Lord spoke meaningful words when He said: “ Salvation is from the Jews.” Because salvation is of and from

P S Y C H O L O G IS T from 15 Narramore came to the root of the matter. During his childhood his par ents had robbed him of his self-con fidence and though he had achieved a place of recognition in the world, it had been at the price of a terrific inner struggle. It was such a struggle that he finally collapsed. It had been repeated incidents which had robbed this man of his confidence. For instance, one day dur ing his childhood the children in his class were going to see a place of historic interest. When, at lunch time, the boy told his father, the father with a too-pro tecting attitude said, “You can’t go. Suppose something happened to you and you were killed. And we have no insurance on you.” This embarrassed the boy because he was not permitted to do what his classmates were doing. Back at school, the teacher told all those who were going to write their names on a slip of paper. When the papers were counted, only one was missing. The teacher asked, “Whoever is not go ing, please stand up and tell us why.” Robert did so and feeling he had to defend his dad, he lied. Thus the bad behavior patterns began. The boy became more and more maladjusted and his marks became low. His fa ther told him, “ Each day I want you to bring home a statement from the teachers as to exactly what your homework is and I’ll see that you do it.” The boy was ashamed to ask each teacher each day for the statement so he signed the teachers’ names. When the next report card came, the grades were no better. Unknown to Robert, the father visited the school. Robert was sitting at his desk when his father, the school superintendent, the principal and teacher, all men six feet tall, came and stood above him. In front of the class, they accused him of forging the teachers’ names. Such incidents had completely rob bed Robert of his confidence. For four months Narramore counselled with him. They had prayer. The man read his Bible more than he had. As he improved, Narramore encouraged him to become part of a Christian group. Narramore set up new patterns of living for the man. At first he could not follow them but he kept trying. Finally, he was able to return to his profession and his entire outlook on life changed. It is impossible for Dr. Narramore to counsel individually with the many who would come to him, therefore, he gives courses in Christian Psychol ogy at churches. He recently held a

It is a Jewish household of faith, but, sad to say, the majority of them have va cated the house. A prominent rabbi said recently, “We have given the world their religions, but have none ourselves.” The reason is clear: they are seeking to establish their own righteousness and salvation, and have not submitted to the righteousness and salvation which God Himself has provided. A minister was going along the road one day when he saw a man working in a field. He could see the land was not of much value, so he said: “ Sir, I think your land is not very productive; is it?” “ No, it’s just like self - /ighteousness.” “ Indeed, how’s that?” asked the interested preacher. The man answered, “ The more a man has of it, the poorer he is.” Give up your self-righteousness and trust the Messiah and Saviour and His divine righteousness.
