course at the Church of the Open Door in Los Angeles entitled, “Why Do People Act Like That?” In order to take the course out of the strictly general lecture class, and make it most helpful, it was necessary to limit it to teachers and parents of junior high boys and girls. Even so, the at tendance was over a hundred. Back of all of Narramore’s teaching and counselling is a strong Christian testimony. Typical of his dealings

AFTER A PRAYER, DEATH Disaster again Strikes New Tribes Mission This July California chalked up the worst forest fire tragedy in 20 years. Victims of the arson-blamed inferno were a U. S. Forest Service employee and 14 trainees from the ill-fated New Tribes Mission. The New Tribes men. in training for jungle mis s i ona r y work, were pressed into service along with 380 other men. The victims believed the blaze had been controlled and had offered prayers of thanks moments before the flames jumped a fire line and raced toward them. Fruitlessly they sought to escape the racing flames by clawing out foxholes with bare hands. The dead were: Dave Johnson, 25; Howard Rowe, 25; Sergio Colles, 40; Cecil Hitchcock, 21; Dan Short, 21; Ray Sherman, 20; Stan Whitehouse, 30; Stan Bote, 26; Darrell Noah, 35; Bob Meiden, 32; Paul Gifford, 32; Benny Dinnel, 24; Harold Griffith 37, and Allen Boddy. Nine other trainees escaped. The disaster was the latest in a series of tragic blows to the New Tribes Mission and boosted to 55 the number of New Tribes missionaries and members of their families who have died in plane crashes, fires or native uprisings. In Nov.,< 1950, a plane carrying Paul W. Fleming, the mission's lead er, and 20 other missionaries crashed and all were burned on Mt. Moran, Wyo. Ten other missionaries and five children were killed five months earl ier in another crash in Venezuela and another five New Tribes repre sentatives were slain by jungle tribes men in Bolivia some 10 years ago. New Tribes is an i ndependen t evangelical missionary s oc ie t y with headquarters in Chico, Calif.

with wife Ruth and 7-month-old Melodie. with those who come to him were those with a socially prominent mother. Her boy was emotionally dis turbed and wouldn’t speak. Narra- more worked with him for a •few months, until he began speaking and proved to be actually brilliant. The mother objected, “Why did this have to happen to my son?” “Maybe God wanted to speak to you and He couldn’t until you were ready to listen.” Then Narramore went on to tell her of Christ and she received Him as Saviour. He witnesses of. the Lord to others because back of all the psychology Narramore has strong Christian con victions. He maintains, “ If a psycho logical principle isn’t scripturally sound, then it isn’t good psychology.” He also believes that “ just as the Bible isn’t a book on automobile me chanics, or a cookbook, so it isn’t a book with complete instructions in psychology.
