CERTIFICATES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Exemptions: RPL and APEL The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Approved Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) allow students to enrol on a qualification without meeting the formal qualification criteria for enrolment.

RPL applies to the following CIPP qualifications

Foundation Degree in Payroll Management and Foundation Degree in Pensions Administration and Management

Allowing students to enrol at year two and complete the relevant Foundation Degree in two years instead of three, based on their previous experience.

Students wishing to enrol on year two of the Foundation Degree will have to demonstrate that they have at least two years’ experience in payroll/pensions.

The RPL process for the Foundation Degree in Payroll Management or Foundation Degree in Pensions Administration and Management is: 1. Complete the year two application form and return to the CIPP offices via post 2. You will be required to complete an online assessment via the CIPP’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) based on the content from year one of the Foundation Degree programme 3. Should you successfully complete the RPL assessment, you will be enrolled to the Foundation Degree at the next available start date 4. Should you be unsuccessful, you will be invited to enrol on year one of the Foundation Degree

APEL applies to the following CIPP qualifications

BA (Hons) in Applied Business and Management (CIPP) and MSc in Business and Reward Management

Allowing students who do not hold one of the desired entry level qualifications direct access to the BA or MSc based on other qualifications that they hold and/or their previous experience in payroll, pensions or reward.

As advised by the University of Derby, APL can be: l Certified (APCL) – to give recognition of learning which has been formally assessed and for which a certificate has been awarded l Experiential (APEL) – to recognise that knowledge and skills can be developed through many types of experience, such as work and voluntary activities Enquirers must hold at least three years’ experience within a business, payroll or pensions environment. In addition, your experience should include strategic aspects such as project management, managing change and team leadership. This is subject to final assessment by the University of Derby. The APEL process for the BA (Hons) in Applied Business and Management(CIPP) and MSc in Business and Reward Management is: 1. Send an up to date CV to the appropriate mailbox, see below 2. On receipt of the CV, your enquiry will be registered and an APL form will be emailed to you for completion and return 3. The CV and completed APL form will be passed to the programme leader for consideration 4. If your application is successful you will be invited to enrol onto your chosen programme at the next available date 5. If your application is unsuccessful the programme leader will advise which CIPP qualification would be best suited
