HCJB INAUGURATES NEW 100-KW TRANSMITTER HCJB, the pioneer missionary broadcasting station, located in Quito, Ecuador, South America, inaugurated into service a new 100,000-watt shortwave transmit ter in January. The ceremony took place at Pifo, 100-acre trans mitter and antenna site, located 16 miles from Quito. More than 27 representatives of the Latin American press were on hand to witness the inaugura tion as Engineer Aurelio Davila Cajas, Minister of Public Works and Communications, turned the switch to officially begin the transmitter’s operation on an in- service basis. He was flanked by more than 40 representatives of the present government o f Ecua dor and numerous other civic and religious organizations. Representing the “ Back-to-the- Bible Broadcast” at the ceremo nies were Dr. Theodore Epp, founder and president, and Mr. Samuel Wall, bass soloist for the broadcast; The new transmitter is one of three RCA 100-KW transmitters delivered to HCJB in October. The others are being installed and will be in service later in the year, along with additional directional antennas. A f ou r t h prototype model is expected to be in opera tion in 1969. The added power is another phase of “ Project Outreach” which began in 1963 with the con struction of a hydro electric plant.

M ANY VALUABLE lessons can be learned from nature. For instance, when the atmospheric pressure upon a given object is greater than its inside resistance, the object collapses under the strain. Dan Bennett tells a story which illustrates the fact that this principle applies in other spheres of life. It seems that a Congressman once voted for a measure which he knew was wrong. He did so for the sake of expediency, even though his better judgment and the dictates of his conscience told him it was a mistake. Later, a friend voiced his great disappointment at the way he had behaved. "You voted the wrong way on this question," he said accus ingly, "and I am sure you knew you were in error.” The Congressman replied, “Well, yes, it really was not the right way to vote; but, but — well you just have no idea what pressure is brought to bear upon us here.” “ Pressure!” said the friend, ‘but man, where were the inside braces?” To answer that question is to explain many of the current

problems that now face the world. Where indeed are the old-fashioned “ moral and ethi cal braces” of the past? And, more important, where are the “spiritual braces”? Only by turning to Christ, and relying upon His grace and power, can we expect to be “ strength ened with might . . . in the inner man,” and successfully meet the tests of life! Yes, holding firm to the precepts of the Word of God through the power of the Holy Spirit will give us “ the inside braces” we need to withstand with courage and steadfastness the evil pressures that surround us. The Lord who is our righteousness is also our strength. He is near at hand, believer, to strengthen you according to your need with “ all might” so as to make you “ more than ’conqueror” in the explosive and trying situa tions of life. In the nation and in the church we need more men with “inside braces!” THOT: Think less of a power of things OVER YOU and more of the power of Christ IN YOU!
