knees promising never to doubt again. You weep over a sermon about God’s limitless forgiveness, then a trusted friend lets you down. You give in to bitterness, insisting that this time you can’t get over it. Y our husband needs your special encouragement fo r his new assignment, but the great burst o f enthusiasm you felt yesterday is gone like an April shower today. You can’t seem to “ work it up” again. For a few days God’s W ord is an oasis in the desert, and then somebody spills coffee on your carpeting. You try to have your Quiet Time, but the coffee detracts from the com fort o f God’s Word. Does it sound fam iliar? Yes, even de plorable, but not hopeless. Thank God, never hopeless! The hopeful thing for all o f us is the story o f Peter. H is life throbs with personal application. With deep-rooted self-confidence, Peter vehe mently asserted, “ Even i f I must die with thee, Jesus, yet will I not deny thee.” Certainly Peter wasn’t trying to fool anyone. He was utterly convinced he was telling the truth. The problem was that Peter wasn’t the kind o f per son he thought he was. One moment he wanted to follow Jesus at any cost; the next moment he wanted to save his own life. His conduct was sadly un predictable because he was governed by emotion. He hadn’t surrendered his weakness because he believed in His own strength. And then God let Peter discover himself as he was — weak, unstable, fluctuating. His fall was deep enough to shatter his confidence, and he “ went out and wept bitterly.” The book of A cts is a breath-taking account o f how the Holy Spirit turned Peter’s greatest weakness into his greatest strength. It happened to Peter and it can happen to us! Peter’s victory can be ours. God patiently waits fo r two things: First, we must see our instability as a paralyzing weakness, bigger than we can possibly handle. Second, we must cast ourselves, with the weakness, wholly upon God. Somehow it is always easier to dedi cate our talents and abilities. W e are convinced that God can use our assets, but our weaknesses stand as unmove able hindrances. These we wish we could hide. But again the secret is surrender! It can be neatly expressed in three words: “ Looking unto Jesus. . . .” We must look and keep on lookingI His great desire fo r every up-and-down Christian is “ A fu ll measure o f ma turity.” "MY CHILD SAID THAT?" A few days after my mother’s fifty- first birthday, my seven-year-old ne phew was saying his bedtime prayers. A s he was finishing his mother heard him say, “ . . . and God bless Grandma because she is SO old.” Our thanks to Janice Brookshire of Pico Rivera, Calif. THE KINO'S BUSINESS The Pattern is Jesus! THE EPIC OF EASTER cont.

When evening came the Master stood among His very own— The men who promised faithful ness to Him, and Him alone. They saw Him stand before them, and they heard His voice divine; It was the Lord whom they adored, the true and living Vine. He showed to them His hands and side and spoke to them again, And all were glad, save Thomas, who was absent from the ten. Now Thomas had a stubborn soul that nothing might deceive; Unless he saw the risen Christ, this man would not believe. But Jesus came to prove His claim to Thomas and the rest, And suffered much that he might touch the hands that stood the test. When Thomas saw the awful marks and felt His wounded side, He recognized his Lord and God in Christ the Crucified. The Lord ordained His own to go to all the human race And preach the saving gospel of His redeeming grace. The Lord of love is now above —the Sovereign over all, The One who gave Himself to save the children of the fall. You know about this Jesus, whom you may have long ignored, But now, would you receive Him as your Saviour and your Lord? He came to save the sinful soul; He came for you and me, And paid the price we could not pay, in blood on Calvary. 0, human soul, what is your goal ? Consider while you may; But choose you must to spurn or trust the Lamb o f God to day.
