OKLAHOMA MEDICAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION
Discovering the next life-saving cure has been a part of Oklahoma City’s DNA since 1946. That year, a statewide fundraising campaign was held to start the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. All told, 7,000 Oklahomans donated a total of $2.25 million to build laboratories and a research hospital. What began as a two-person operation in 1946 has grown into an internationally recognized research institute, employing more than 400 people. The team studies cancer, heart disease, autoimmune disorders and diseases of aging. Their discoveries have yielded hundreds of patents and a pair of life-saving drugs now available in hospitals and clinics around the world. By studying the ways in which the human body functions, OMRF develops deeper insights into disease, then translates those findings into diagnostics and therapeutics.
