joyous songs of praise to God, and with good will to men (Luke 2:13, 14). 4. The Way God Kept It: By giving (John 3:16). 5. In the Way of Gratitude: By thanks giving (2 Cor. 9:15). Sunday, December 28. Peter’s Picture of a Good Christian. 1. We may imagine that each of the ten principles Peter mentions are ten fea tures of our picture. It is a .composite picture of Christian graces. Composite pic tures blend many faces as this many graces into one copy of Christ;' for such should every Christian be. 2. To Have One Mind: We must agree to seek God’s glory; to do Christ’s will; to let the Bible settle all our differences of opinion. 3. To Have Compassion is to have a tender fellow feeling for one another, sym pathizing in all things. 4. To Be Loving, we all ¿«ozu what that is, let us all show what it is. 5. Be Pitiful, that is to feel sorry for all that are in trouble, or poor and lowly. But our pity must be practical. “I am sorry,” said one of a poor man whose horse fell dead in the street. Another said, “I pity him $5.00, how much do you pity him?” 6. Be Courteous. That is to be polite, yielding, considerate of others, Ibut in a way that goes deeper than good manners, even to the heart. If in our pity we are also courteous, we will not act as if we pitied, but as if we were on an equality with misery. 7. Not Rendering Evil for Evil. If others rail at us, or do us an ill turn, we are riot to "give them as good as they send,” but infinitely better. We are “not to pay them in their own coin,” but coin bearing the image of Christ (Rom. 12:19-21). 8. Blessing. We do this by wishing well to others and seeking their welfare. When

1. The Untamed Tongue: Rash, it once shut two good men out of the good land (Ps. 106:33; Num. 20:10, 12). A tattler, it killed eighty-five priests and massacred a whole city (1 Sam. 22:9, 10, 18, 19). 2. What Should Be Done to It? (Ps. 120:3). It should be kept in a scabbard (Ps. 57:4); labeled with a skulk and cross- bones (Rom. 3:8); harnessed (Ps. 39:1); shackled with ball and chain (Ps. 73:9); disinfected; attacked Ibiy the fire depart ment (James 3:5, 6). 3. What Do You Know About It? Ever see it: Bring tears to one’s eyes? An angry flush to a face? A pain to a heart? Stir up a strife? Spoil a good time?' Set the home by the ears ? Bring punishment to its owner? Tell us about it. 4. How to Tame It? Get a new heart (Matt. 12:34, 35; John 3:7). Turn your tongue over to God’s keeping (Ps. 141:3; 34:13). Make Job’s resolve by God’s grace (Job 27:4). Keep it busy in well-doing (Eph. 5:19, 20; 2 Sam. 23:2). Turn it into precious metal (Prov. 10:20). Ever know a tongue to dry a tear? To heal a strife? To gladden a heart, The best tongue tamer is love (1 Cor. 13:1, 13). . Sunday, December 21. What Is the Best Way to Keep Christmas? 1. The Way the Shepherds Kept It: Seek and find Jesus (Luke 2:15-17). 2. The Way the Wise Men Kept It: Worship Him ; open your treasures (your hearts) to Him, and present these gifts— “gold,” i. e., all your wealth, “frankincense,” i. e., your adoration, wor ship ; and “myrrh,” your acknowledgment of His bitter suffering for you, and your desire of His sympathy (Matt. 2:11). 3. The Way the Angels Kept It: With “Take my silver and my gold, Not a mite would I withhold.”
