THE KING’S BUSINESS

and realizes what an atom he is in it all, can fear to die in this flesh, yea, even though it were true that he is to lose his identity and be dissolved forever into the infinity of matter and mind from which he came.” Dr. H. Cremer of Greifswald thus refers to the failure of evolution: “We recognize development and we do not deny the prog ress in development. The present stage of civilization stands 1000 times higher than the civilization of the Asiatic and African Kingdoms, even of the civilization of Greece and Rome, upon whose shoulders we stand. But with the progress of civilization and the rational control of nature, there goes hand in hand through the life of the peo ples, a decline in morality, which at lengtTi will come to a head in Anti-Christ to be overthrown at Christ’s return Morals are no better because sin changes its form. Rough sins, like attacks upon persons and property,'may be falling off, but other sins are increasing.” It is said that when General Grant made his famous tour around the world, the Emperor, of Germany, with just pride, took him to review the great German army. At the close of the review General Grant ex claimed, “That which impresses me most is not the number of men composing the army, not the wonderful physique of the men, not the fine equipment, but the swing ing tread of victory with which they march.” The vast business carried on under church auspices today demands a large army of workers, with characters worthy of Christ’s nobleman, equipped with the 'best of spiritual accoutrements, but, above all, possessed with that assurance of ulti mate victory under the Great Commander which will take the world for Christ The following prediction was made by Abraham Lincoln a short time before the end of his life, and the American people ought to have his Words often before their minds: “I do not pretend to be a prophet, but although not a prophet, I see a very

dark cloud on our horizon. That dark cloud is coming from Rome. It is filled with tears of blood. It will rise and in crease till its flanks will be torn by a flash of lightning, followed by a fearful peal of thunder. Then a cyclone, such as the ?world has never seen, will pass over the country, spreading ruin and desolation from north to south. After it is over there will be long days of peace and prosperity, for Popery, with its Jesuits and merciless Inquisition, will have been forever swept away from our country. Neither I nor you, but our children, will see these things.” Some time ago an old man living in New Jersey discovered about $5000 in a family Bible. The bank-notes were scattered throughout the book. In 1874 this man’s aunt died, and one clause of her will read as follows: “To my beloved nephew I will and bequeath my family Bible and all it contains, with the residue of my estate after my funeral expenses and just and law ful debts are paid.” The estate amounted to only a few hundred dollars, which was soon. spent; and her nephew neglected his Bible - for thirty-five years, not knowing of the treasures it contained. He lived in poverty all this time. At last, while packing his trunk to move to his son, with whom he expected to spend his few remaining years, he discovered the money hidden away in the Bible. Those who neglect to read their Bibles lose even greater treasures than those of this world. A Scottish lady, missionary in India, tells of a Bible class of girls which she had. She was teaching them about the life and character of the Lord Jesus. One day a new girl came in, fresh from the heathen ism in which she grew up, knowing noth ing of the Gospel. She listened, and then she became quite intense and excited, in her childish way, as she heard them talk ing about some one, how good he was, how gentle, how he was always teaching and helping the people arqund him. At last she could restrain her eagerness ,no longer, but blurted out, “I know that man; he lives near us.” It was found that she
