THE KING’S BUSINESS

In speaking of “Pastor” Russell’s char acter, ex-Judge Oeland said to the jury, “What the character of the olaintiff is you can infer from the fact that he did not take the witness stand and let you look into his eyes as he told his past life. He did not give you and me a chance to ques tion him as to how he became a preacher of religious doctrines and what he intends to do when he leaves here .”—Highland Park Herald. What My School Studies Teach Me About God. Concluded from page 591 fore they must have been made, created by someone since they are for something (Rom. 1:20). 2) They Teach Üs That God Is Great. The sun, and moon, and stars, even the earth itself, how great 1 and the distances between and beyond them, yet God is strong enough to uphold and move them all. How great! to embrace them all. (3) They Teach Us How Good He Is. So mindful of man is He that you cannot point to anything from sun, moon and stars, down to beast, fish, or bird, to the precious things that grow out of the earth, or are dug out of i t , but that it serves some good or necessary7 for man. And we know that God has given it all to man, and, therefore, must have made it on purpose for him, for us. (4) They Teach Us How Good We Should Be. For how can we help ¡but say, “What shall I render unto the Lord,” etc. (Ps. 116:12). Nature cannot answer this, and so to. our studies we must add the Bible, God’s best gift to students.

did not know about Christ, but supposed they were speaking of a very earnest native Christian man living in her neighborhood. She had mistaken her neighbor for Jesus. How glad that man must have been if he ever knew. This was a part of our Lord’s plan. Pastor Russell Exposed as Faker A nyone w ho w ould c ertify th is item from a se cu lar jo u rn al should w rite th e B rooklyn (N. Y.) E agle, or Ju d g e O eland of th a t city-—ED ITORS. We notice that many of the country newspapers are printing each week a ser mon by Pastor Russell. This man has been repeatedly exposed as a monumental faker. Recently Mr. Russell sued the Brooklyn Eagle, for $100,000. The Brooklyn Eagle charged him with defrauding his wife of her dower interest and having his name sensationally connected with those of other women; with giving himself out as an in- terdenominationalist, when in fact he is connected with none, but opposed to a ll; with publishing himself as giving addresses to great crowds in important places where he has not spoken a word at all; with seeking to dupe certain ministers into sup porting daring transactions; with being con nected with the lead, asphalt and turpen tine companies; with selling or causing to be sold, “Miracle wheat” at $60 a bushel; with influencing the sick and dying to make their wills in his favor; with engineering the sale of property worth $35,000 for 50 cents for the purpose of defrauding an other. The Civil Court gave judgment against him, thus justifying the Brooklyn Eagle for exposing him. It is worthy of note that Mr. Russell though present in court and hearing all the damaging evidence against him, did not enter the witness box in his own defense. The defense was anxious for him to be put on the stand, but the prosecution did not allow' him to appear. It was announced and expected that he would appear to explain and refute the charges, but all were disappointed.

So, footsore, I, so full of fears, My campfire build below, And wait shall I till dawn appears, Then home to glory go! O sinner, startled with alarms, God’s Tree stands hy thy way, Here flee for refuge to His arms From that great Judgment Day!
