King's Business - 1913-12

604 welcome and hearty fellowship make their continued presence sure. The Personal Work Class, from eight to nine o’clock, is showing good results and the prayer bands bring blessing to the whole work. The Club has started a furnishing fund for their own rest room in the new building, and also contributes as it is able to mission work. A small orchestra has been formed to help the singing. And the work, alto gether, is a cause for rejoicing. The following quotation from a letter will show a girl’s idea of the Club: “The Club has not only meant much to me, but when I find a girl who needs help and good friends, why, I know just where to take her, and there are few cities that can have that said of them. I do thank God for leading us to Los Angeles. I think I had not com menced to live until I came here.” Bible Women’s Notes. One of our workers found an old lady, totally blind, a royal child of God. Here a double ministry was found possible. A weak young Christian was sent to read the Bible to her, who in turn ministered the deeper spiritual things to the young wo man, who was, thus, slowly but surely built up into a strong, active Christian. A bright young woman was invited to an evening class, the theme of which was the Plan of the Ages.” The quick and powerful Word of God searched her heart, convicted her of coming judgment, and left her in a most unhappy condition. Personal dealings cleared away the clouds and she came into the bright light of the Gospel. She had broken her engagement to a fine Christian young man, because of the “un equal yoking.together,” but now j oy reigns in their home, where God is being honored by both their young lives. An earnest word to a young woman on a street car, followed by several interviews on car and at home; the gift of a marked Testament, and much prayer that the Word might find its way into her heart, cul

minated one night in a visit in which she came to plead for help. There came hap piness into the faithful Bible woman’s heart’; peace into the soul of the girl and, we know, joy among the heavenly throng; for this young woman dedicated her life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Sowing beside all waters is surely proven a faithful practice, as the scores of reports from the Biihle women show each week at their conference and prayer meeting. One young woman confessed her Lord over the counter of a department store after a sec ond interview with the worker. Several high school girls, gathered in a weekly Bible class, have surrendered their lives to the Master’s use, ready to serve at His call, in school or out of it. One interesting case was settled, happily settled, during a long wait for a street car. There are many discouraging things in the work. Of course—doors are often shut in the face; women violent in their angry denunciation, misrepresentation, and inter ference in cases of ministry, etc. But in spite of active opposition from Scientists and other false professors, we see, daily, that “He that is with us” is the Strong One who takes care of His own work in His own way. The Bible woman at the Normal School is being unusually blessed this semester and the numbers coming into the many Bible classes are becoming more active. Mission study is called for and there will be fruit age for foreign work Out of disaster and ruin complete, Out of the struggle and dreaded defeat, Out of my sorrow and burden and shame, Out of the evils too fearful to name, Out of my guilt and the criminal’s doom, Out of the dreading and terror and gloom Into the sense of forgiveness and rest, Into inheritance all with the blest, Into a righteous and permanent peace, Into the grandest and fullest release, Into the comfort without an alloy, Into a perfect and confident joy.
