Community Open House : In addition to the annual staff appreciation barbecue, the City takes pride in hosting a community open house every year to celebrate National Public Works Week. This is an opportunity for the community to come out and visit the Joint Operations Centre, learn about the great services Public Works provides, and enjoy games and activities. This year, the event took place on May 25, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents were invited to drop off textiles for the donation bin, exchange damaged City- issued blue boxes and green bins or purchase new ones, get their face painted and meet and greet animals from local tourism attraction, Reptilia Zoo. Residents were also encouraged to take home a free spruce tree sapling for planting on private property, complimentary pots for gardening and up to three free bags of mulch (made from pruned trees). The City takes pride in our environmental sustainability efforts of reusing and repurposing resources for the benefit of the community. We had an additional mulch giveaway day for residents who were unable to attend the open house. For the first time we had the Vaughan food bank had a booth where residents donated non-perishable food items.
