Women Igniting Support and Empowerment
this year included addressing microaggressions, navigating a male-dominated workplace, vision boarding workshops, and one-on-one discussions with male leaders in the portfolio to facilitate important conversations that promote openness, understanding and allyship in the workplace. The WISE group members also attended the Art of Leadership Women conference, featuring inspiring female leaders, including Roberta Bondar and Sophie Trudeau. Our commitment to learning, sharing and networking creates an environment that nurtures personal and professional growth for our female leaders. We will continue our efforts to recognize and celebrate the contributions of women in Public Works into 2025 and beyond.
In August 2022, Public Works launched Women Igniting Support and Empowerment (WISE), the City’s first-ever women’s networking group. WISE continues to focus on empowering our female leaders to take ownership of their roles and pursue growth and development within their careers. The group meets bi-monthly to discuss topics of personal interest and foster open dialogue. The chair rotates at each meeting to ensure that all voices are heard, promoting a sense of empowerment among participants. In 2024, we further developed WISE to emphasize learning and growth, offering dedicated sessions tailored to the interests and needs of our female leaders. Notable topics
