Summer’s here, the sun’s out, and it’s the perfect time to make some memories with your crew — family, friends, or your favorite foodie partner-in-crime. If you’re looking for local gems that bring the flavor, fun, and chill vibes, I’ve got four can’t- miss spots that will make your summer extra sweet (and maybe just a little salty, but in the best way possible). DA SEAFOOD CARTEL With locations in Aiea and now in Hale‘iwa, this place does seafood right. The ceviche is the real MVP — cool, zesty, and ridiculously refreshing on a hot day. The fish tacos are full of flavor, and “Da OG Tostado” lives up to its name. It’s crunchy, creamy, spicy, and basically summer on a plate. COSMIC BOWLING AT AIEA BOWL It’s more than just bowling — it’s throwback tunes from a live DJ, dancing between frames, and (if you’re lucky) walking away with a prize or two. And when you’ve worked up an appetite, you can head to The Alley Restaurant inside the bowling alley and treat yourself to their famous lemon crunch cake! FOUR SEASONS POOLSIDE BAR This place screams summer bliss. Order the Ube-bae Piña Colada — yes, it’s as Instagram-worthy as it sounds. The swirl of purple ube in their classic piña colada is stunning and seriously delicious. Sit back, sip slowly, and take in one of the best views on the island. FOOKI IN AIEA This industrial-chic Asian noodle bar nails both flavor and nostalgia. We couldn’t get enough of the pillowy bao, crispy potstickers, and the yummy veggie scallion noodles. Don’t forget a boba milk tea — it’s delicious! Whatever your summer plans look like, we hope you soak up the sun, savor the flavors, and enjoy every moment with your loved ones. Here’s to a fun, full, and fantastic summer!

Gatsby” attire sipping on a sidecar for a roaring ’20s-themed party? Plan your theme and the perfect menu of drinks, appetizers, and entrees to match. Next, pick out your summer guest squad and invite them at least a month in advance to give them ample notice. Ideally, you want to keep the guest list to about 15 people, mixing in long-time friends and new acquaintances to keep the conversations lively and the party manageable. Mix, Mingle, Move Around Set up an inviting scene with cute cocktail glasses, festive decorations, and different seating options that encourage guests to mingle and have fun. Clear space for a makeshift dance floor, and provide snacks at every little grouping of comfy chairs to entice guests to nosh while they chat. Having an attractive and central bar area can set the party’s mood. You can go all out and hire someone to handle a full bar, create a drink station in the kitchen, or set up a DIY bar cart with recipes and all the ingredients for your friends to be their own bartenders. Shake Up Conversations No celebration is complete without engaging conversation and entertainment. Help your guests get to know each other by putting out fun icebreaker questions on the tables or serving each drink with one. This will get people to open up, laugh, and make new friends (the ultimate party favor). You could also come up with some fun games that encourage a little goofiness, like charades, a board game, or your very own talent show.

With more inventory now available, buyers are taking a more cautious, value-driven approach in their home search. As a result, fewer properties are closing above the asking price, prompting some sellers to adjust their pricing strategies. Patience and strategic pricing are becoming increasingly important factors for success in today’s housing market.

Backyard Projects to Spark Young Imaginations
AGES 3–5 Toddlers ages 3–5 start using their
Are you ready to turn your backyard into the ultimate adventure zone for your little ones? Whether your kids are budding explorers, curious scientists, or future Olympians, a backyard project awaits to transform their playtime into a new level of fun. From toddler-size treasures to preteen-approved hangouts, we’ve got you covered with ideas for every age group that will let their imaginations thrive. AGES 0–2 For children 2 and under, the world is brand- new, and they are learning about everything. As you design a backyard play zone for them, focus on engaging their developing senses with sights, sounds, and textures. DIY sandboxes or water tables allow them to practice hand-eye coordination and expose them to the feel of water or sand. Both can be built inexpensively and are safe tools for them to explore their motor skills by digging, scooping, or splashing.
imaginations to create, build, and pretend. You can inspire their inner architect, chef, survivalist, or artist by creating outdoor spaces that encourage their creativity to shine. Give them opportunities to draw or paint by making a chalk art wall where they can use washable chalk to doodle on a special spot in the sunshine. A playhouse or homemade fort allows them to create their own little world. You could set up a tent or build an outdoor fort from PVC pipe and canvas, or you can leave the construction work up to them by setting out oversized foam building blocks they can use to create their own play structure. AGES 6–12 By the time kids reach 6, they’re starting to step into who they are and developing better coordination. This is a time for them to keep building their problem-solving skills,
teamwork, and understanding of structured games. A backyard playset with swings, tunnels, and slides will help them burn off energy and keep them physically active. If you have a sturdy tree in your yard, a treehouse is a special place for them to experience nature and a little independence. If you want something less permanent, create a sports “field” with temporary grass, chalk, paint, and cones.
