Causes of extreme heat
Over the last 100 years the annual number of very hot days and hot nights has increased significantly: by six times and 35 times respectively.
Climate change is one of the defining issues of our time. Its effects are already being felt around the world. In both the 2018 and 2019 Global Risks Report, the World Economic Forum listed “extreme weather events” as the top global risk. 8 The location of Hong Kong means that it already has a sub-tropical climate. However due to climate change and an increase in population density, it means that hotter summers are on the rise.
