THREE LONG-TIME RESOURCES STILL RELEVANT FOR REHABS
by Michele Van der Veen
anaging a dozen renovations at one time might be unimaginable to many. Even as I look back to the beginning when I renovated my first investment property, the thought of several simultaneous renovation projects would have overwhelmed me! But now after years in the business and overseeing many renovations at a time, I have realized your success—and your sanity—comes M
down to how good your resources are! Overseeing multi- ple projects is a time-sensitive issue. Decisions need to be made fast so creating a good foundation of resources will reduce your searching time. This allows you to have more time to decide on what color, finish, size, quantity, etc. Below are three surprising yet dependable resources for design and renovations:
1 Books/Magazines As soon as I go in escrow to purchase a home for renovation, I grab my books and pick up more magazines to help me start the creative process. While there are loads of online resources to help give you direction for the overall design of your project, there’s nothing like grabbing trusted design books and magazines to carry around with you. More often than not, my contractor will ask me for a picture of the tile layout I want or the fireplace mantle design I have in mind, so being able to have my fingers right on those designs to show him, or even tack the photo on the wall in the space is extremely valuable. Being able to keep everyone on the project certain of what is expected on the design side of it all, is as simple as posting a picture on the wall!
About the Designer: Growing up assisting my father building and investing in strip malls, it was clear at an early age that real estate investing was a natural path for me to take.
