Historical inequality
In conclusion, governments and people today do have a moral duty to correct the legacies of inequalities of the past which translate to inequalities today, such as the fact that because of years of oppression African Americans today still have a lower standard of living than many other ethnic groups. Providing an equal opportunity to everyone is fundamental to the virtues of many governments, with the most well-known being the American constitution which states that all men are created equal, but the UK andmany other nations also have equality laws which aim to achieve equality of opportunity for all. However, action to correct inequalities of the past should take the form of an attempt to fix any legacies of historical inequality, rather than reparations which serve as an apology for historic wrongs, as the past cannot be changed and it is often not the fault of anyone alive today.
