Summer 2022

Conservation Commission's Threatened and Endangered Wildlife list. We enjoyed the leisurely pace of the flat roads and the plethora of birds and alligators. They are presently building a large educational center that should be open the summer of 2022 adding to the appeal. Christmas, Florida is also a great place to get your Christmas cards stamped by the local post office. While in the town, take in local history by visiting Fort Christmas Historical Park. On December 25, 1837, a force of 2,000 U.S. Army Soldiers and Alabama Volunteers arrived near this spot to construct a fort, which was aptly named, Fort Christmas. This fort was only one of more than 200 forts built during the Second Seminole Indian War, 1835-1842. The fort houses exhibits and a video presentation about the Seminole Indian Wars. The fort and houses are open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, except December 24 and 25. Entrance is free.
