Affiliation Parade to the Welsh Guards

D ulwich College Combined Cadet Forces officially changed affiliation to the Welsh Guards on Tuesday 10 October 2017. Although the CCF has had a long and successful affiliation with the Royal Artillery it was keen to change affiliation to the Welsh Guards for a number of reasons, in particular to honour the memory of OA and former Welsh Guards Officer, Lt Mark Evison. At the parade the Cadets were lucky enough to be in the presence of not only Col Bonas, Lt Col. Bevan but also Maj Gen Bathurst, who took the salute from the Cadets. After the Parade they were entertained by the various interest stands that the Regiment had so kindly laid on. The evening ended with a commemorative photograph at the War Memorial and a curry supper, served in the Lower Hall where the portraits of the College VC winners hang. All the Cadets had an amazing afternoon and one that will last for a very long time in their memories. They now wear the Leek with great honour and pride.

Guthrie Cup winners 2017

O n Sunday 15 October, nine Cadets from the Army Section of Dulwich College CCF took part in the London District Guthrie Cup Competition at Harrow School. Dulwich College CCF had won the inaugural competition in 2015, and only narrowly missed out on winning in 2016, so the Cadets were extremely keen to put on a good performance and regain the Cup. Along with nine other top CCFs in London the Cadets competed in 10 military based skills tests, ranging from Fitness and Shooting to Section Attacks and Fire Control Orders. The Dulwich Cadets performed well, and it was a nervous wait before the results came in. Finally the Parade was brought to attention and the results were announced: Dulwich College CCF had won the Fire Control Orders and Contingent Commanders Challenge stands and were named winners of the competition overall! It was a fantastic effort by the whole team. Cdt RSM Edward Curran, who had commanded the Affiliation Parade earlier in the week, was presented with the Guthrie Cup by Maj Gen Bathurst; another very proud moment for Eddie. A great day was had by all our Cadets, resplendent in their new Welsh Guards berets.
